All cars should have a K and N filter
One of many bang-for-buck upgrades you can buy for your Lancer. More power when you want it and better mpg when you're cruising, provided you have no other mods. I've had mine for 12000 miles. I did about 5 tanks of fuel on the stock paper filter before putting this in and have noticed that when fully draining (at least to the point that I dare with the fuel light on!) and then filling I am getting roughly 50miles extra per tank, according to the trip computer which I reset at the petrol station. The filter was ~£55 and the average price of fuel over the last year or so is about £1.18 p/l - I am filling up about 40l each time so if we assume fuel costs £1.18 that would make a fill up cost £47.20, which gets me (with my boy racer driving about town) roughly 225 miles with the paper filter or 275 miles with the K and N. According to my maths, after ~10 pump visits you are starting to save. At the moment petrol is about £1.06 and someone with a more dignified right foot on the motorway over long distances could easily manage over 400 miles with one. On one anomalous 6 hour adventure driving mainly on dual carriageways and motorways (shortly after fitting the K and N) my trip computer was ticking over 380 miles as I pulled in for another break and a much-needed injection of 95.
