Loved the unique setting
I think this story had the most creative love story setting that I read all year. I really enjoyed that the main character was a burlesque dancer because yay for black burlesque dancers representation!!The story was the sweet, accomplished secretary, and SLIGHTLY clumsy(please know that it's not the cringe level clumsy and the main character learned from her mistakes and is better for it rather than her clumsiness be a character trait that the male lead falls for so I thought that was so cool) + brooding CEO with a good amount of drama that everyone likes to read. He was a little possessive but I thought it was so cute how he showed up to almost all her shows 🥺. The only thing I was a little hesitant on is *spoiler* that the female lead gets really upset when she finds out the male lead meets with some suspicious 'agent' that was looking to meet with her for her. There were multiple mentions in the book at how sketchy the agent was, including from fellow dancers, and combine this with the fact that her ex was truly something else and would do a lot to get back at her, I was kinda surprised the female lead got as upset as she did?? The plot also kind of never touches on this agent again after using him as a way to cause conflict and it would've been nice to know what was actually going on with him. *end spoiler*Great read!

Great story!
Good grief, Nikola Collins!! This book—what a delicious, romantic ride! This is the first time I read Tiffany Patterson’s romance book, but this will not be the last. This book is an unputdownable, fun, flirty, and yet suspenseful, sensual, and an emotional story at the same time. Nikola Collins became the CEO of Excel Financial Services Corp. at a young age after his father passed away. His father trained him to take over the company, since he was the oldest, after his father retired, but he never got the chance to retire. Nikola is an enigma of a man who is a very handsome billionaire, playboy extraordinaire, a-hole, overconfident, most eligible bachelor, workaholic, arrogant, and he usually gets what he wants—right now, he want Devyn. Devyn Williams is a beautiful Black independent woman who is good at her job, and she works for Nikola’s brother, Andre who is CFO, as his administrative assistant. Devyn has always had a crush on her boss’s brother, but she would never show it at work. Unbeknownst to Devyn, Nikola had a crush on her for three years—since she started working for his brother. There is no denying the attraction, but the chemistry like the one they have can only be denied for so long. Devyn has a secret that she does not want anyone from her job to know, especially Nikola, what she does outside of work. What is Devyn’s secret? Devyn encountered problems with her abusive ex-boyfriend, Marcus, of five years, and she became a force to be reckoned with. Everything about Nikola and Devyn seemed too good to be true, but none of that mattered until a situation with Devyn’s ex-boyfriend turns her idyllic life upside down. Find out what happened—you will be astonished! Their journey is intoxicatingly quirky, perfectly paced and all-around fun with a surprise HEA. I can’t wait to read the book 2 of Mercedes (Devyn’s BFF) and Raul’s (Nikola BF) story.Because I am not a fan of third person narrative, I could not give it a five star rating. The story was good, but in my opinion, I think the first person narrative can raise the emotional stakes in the story because the first person is living the action in the story and can put more emphasis on how the story is told.

Really good
I Loved this, the story was well written. I enjoyed it. This was different then other books I've read by other black authors. She(Tiffany Patterson) was an improvement. I some time feel like black authors are a little too vulgar and make it about the sex, leaving out the love and storyline. Black women want romance, love and great SEX.

fun story
I think they needed a little more communication up front. But I liked the way the author developed that.I liked that the story didn’t stop with the bad guy getting taken down.I liked the bit about Iris.

Not Much of a Female Character
SPOILER ALERT: Devyn broke up a year plus ago. No social life to speak of. No clubbing, no movie nights with her peeps, no hobbies, except her second job that she did several times a month. No hanging with the women whom she strongly supported from her second job. Cute, sexy. In comes Nikola who speaks only in the imperative: "You will be leaving with me...", "Don't try to run", " Come here", Keep those on", "Pack a bag", etc. Where is her sense of self? There was no Devyn, only a lens of Devyn through which Nikola saw her. She came alive twice in the book: Once, when Nikola ordered her to quit her second job and once when her ex hit her and was on his way to do something more serious to her. It wasn't even as if she was weak. She was transparent. Nonexistent.

This book was so good that I couldn't put it down! I loved the characters and I love a woman doing what she can to be confident in her skin.

Steamy
Starts a little slow but builds up steam, pun intended, once it gets going. The storyline is good and there's a two part bonus "epilogue" you can download free. So. Why only 3☆? The book needs edited. There are several wrong words used. Even the bonus is riddled with mistakes and that's supposedly on the authors own website. Also, there are triggers that there are no warnings about. Seriously, any negative treatment of another person needs a warning in the synopsis.

Devyn and Nikola we’re destined to be together they just needed a gentle nudge in the obvious direction. Not disappointed great characters and storyline.

Loved it!
This is my first book by this author. I read the story on KU but when I finished reading the book I immediately brought it because I wanted it on own a copy of this great read.I would like to recommend Black Pearl by Tiffany Patteson as great read. Nikola Collins is my idea of true alpha male. He respects and loves Simone without trying to manipulate or control her! Even whilst trying to protect her he always allows her to be herself and does not degrade or disrespects her in any way. This story is really romantic and I love stories like these. Alpha males can still be that without dominating everything you do!!I am desperate for the author to write another story. I will be clicking it!

Nikola...deep sigh
Nikola and Devyn's story blew me away! I absolutely enjoyed it from beginning to end. This is my first read from this author, and I hope there's more beefy story lines in store for me to sink my teeth into. I love the way these two came together, and after holding back for three years in a bid to remain professional, it's no wonder their chemistry was just off the richter scale. I would definitely recommend this book in a heartbeat, it's a keeper.
