How deep must water be? Will it stop if water gets too low or will motor burn up?

My birdbath is about two and a half inches deep and the pump works fine. I don’t know the answer to your second question, though I suspect it would be bad for the motor to keep trying to pump when there’s no water. I don’t believe it will automatically stop.

Should the tubes/spray attachments be threaded so they screw on? Mine don’t and come loose from water pressure.

mine did not come off with water pressure as they fit securely when attached.

Is this item returnable?

It says “Free Returns” on the right side box below the price.

Can this be used to float on top of a koi pond?

I don't know about a koi pond, but it floats very well in a bird bath.
