Sonin 50215 4-in-1 Stud, Moisture, Metal and Voltage Detector

I have used all its functions. It works ok but not the best. It detects line voltage but not as sensitive as the dedicated voltage sensor. The stud finder is very much less than consistent, particularly on the edge. I slided finder multiple times across the same stud, each time I got a slightly different position. The range is as large as half an inch. In comparison, the Stanley Intellisense stud finder gave me the signal at the exact same location every time. For home owners, this tool works fine. But if speed and precision are important to you, this is not good enough.

Bought two of these. First one went out about a month and a half after I ordered them. Second one just went out (three months). Checked return policy and lo, and behold, it can't be returned. Hoping the seller will stand behind their product and replace.

My old 4 in 1 finally crapped out so I bought this one as replacement. The moisture detect ALWAYS lights 3 LED so it hard to determine reading - could be 8% (OK), 10% (who knows) or 12% (too wet). Electrical detect works good! Metal detect only works for ferrous material (aluminum conduit - forget it) and then only with large mass. Won't detect a nail in a piece of lumber. Stud finder is a total joke. I used my old 4 in 1 for checking moisture content in my materials for wood working and for checking for nails before planing old boards. I bought this Sonin detector because of price. It was a gamble and I lost. If your looking for a reliable 4 in 1 - pay the extra $20, it is worth it. Buying this Sonin is like flushing money down the toilet.

I got this item specifically for its moisture detection function. I had water damage on my apartment a few months back and after seeing the water restoration people carrying instruments similar to this one, I thought about getting one in order to periodically check the drywall close to water sources like in the ones close to the kitchen sinks or bathrooms and prevent any future water damage which can become extremely costly. I looked for the models that they were carrying, but believe me those were way too expensive.When I found this one, I thought I would give it a try since the price was very reasonable, and I haven't been disappointed. The moisture meter accurately identifies moisture in drywall. It indicates the level of moisture on the display and has three different colors based on the level of severity. It helped me identify moisture in another drywall where water was coming in from the outside. Having this instrument really allowed me to make my case with my HOA who could not do anything but send someone to check my wall right away. Indeed there was water damage, and my HOA had to pay the repairs.I have run just some quick tests of the other functions to see how they work, but nothing extensive. But for the price, it's definitely worth it even if it is just as a moisture meter.

I bought this thinking you have 4 tools in one for a decent price....it's garbage! It's only good for moisture detector...even that, I'm not even sure if it's accurate.. I would not recommend this product.

The Sonin 50215 would not work on plaster walls despite several attempts. Simply tapping yielded good locations of the studs. The Sonin unit was returned.
