This was a Christmas present for someone crafty and artistic, and the journal was a hit. It’s beautiful in person and is real leather. I was extremely happy with this purchase for the price and the quality.

I was surprised by exactly how much this journal was perfect for my needs given the inexpensive price. It's exactly as described, which is saying something when it comes to these kinds of items. The leather is supple and suitably distressed, and the paper is rough and thick, as hoped. The leather strip binding is tight and well done. Basically, it's everything I'd hope for, and feels believably like an actual antique book. About the only part that feels in any way out of place is the metal key "bookmark" attached to the strap. It looks a bit too fancy and is made of too light weight of a material to feel genuine or appropriate for the period of the rest of the journal, but this is a matter of my personal preference both for style and use. As the key is not really a part of the book itself, and could be pretty readily removed by cutting it off without in any way affecting the utility of the item, I'm fine with it. In summary: well made, as described, and surprisingly good for the price.

This jounal is about as aauthentic as you can get. The leather straps around the cover fits perfectly with the cover binding. I am impressed with the type paper used in this journal and I was offered a chance to get refill pages if I want. I was only dissappointed in the fact I thoought the cover would have a locking mechanism and not just an skeleton key for asthetics. I wated to be able to lock my jounal. However, this jounal has plenty of pages for documenting your thoughts and experiences. The quality of the cover and pages takes you back to a time when penmanship was an asset!

This journal came as an exact same replica of the one shown in the picture. It's a very good journal for those looking for handmade journals. I bought a few on Amazon already and this is one of my favorites. Yes, it's already looking worn-out, and yes, it may not test the time as well as more conventional journals. But it has a lot of soul in it. I personally will use it as a Dungeons & Dragons item during an upcoming session.
