Easy-to-follow recipes with one pictorial caveat
Like many of the reviewers, I love the simplicity of the layout and breadth of recipes provided across a range of spirits: whiskey, gin, tequila & mezcal, vodka, rum, and wines & liqueurs. However, it would appear that the book designers were too busy "taste-testing" the recipes to notice that they globally swapped the thumbnails for sweet and dry vermouth in the page layouts. I'm surprised the many book reviewers here didn't call this out, even when their own photos of the book's pages show this error. (Maybe they don't know their vermouths?)Throughout the book, dry vermouth is represented by a reddish bottle and sweet vermouth is represented by a clear bottle. This runs counter to the vermouth types I know. Oops! This is the reason for my removing one star from my review.I noticed the error today when making a Rob Roy (p. 19), which calls for sweet vermouth but shows a dry vermouth (clear) bottle. As luck would have it, a Dry Rob Roy is made with dry vermouth, so the mixup doesn't result in something unknown to mixological history — although I personally didn't like it.I recommend focusing on the words underneath the images when following the recipes in this book, not the images, attractive though they may be. Cheers!Update: It turns out that even the text underneath the thumbnail images isn't perfect. Of the three recipes made with Old Tom Gin, for example, one of them (The Martinez, p. 123) labels it as "Old Tim Gin." Drink up!

LOVE this book
I am so impressed with this book. I don't really know what I was expecting, but I am really surprised by what an incredibly nice book this is. It's gorgeous for one thing, with really lovely photographs for each of the drinks. I love how it is laid out. The drinks are organized by the main liquor, and then each two-page spread has a photo of the drink and a column to one side listing the ingredients. Then the directions are beside that. This layout makes it really easy to browse through and see what you can make with what you have on hand, or easily see what you need to purchase to make the drinks. I also really appreciate that none of the drinks are complicated and they all use just a few basic ingredients. Even though they are basic ingredients, there are still some very interesting combinations and amazing looking and sounding drinks included. I am going to need to go back through with some sticky tabs and mark at least a dozen new drinks I'd like to try. I also like that each recipe tells you what kind of glass to serve the drink in. That's something that normally wouldn't occur to me but could make a difference, especially with proportions. I'm so excited about this book and I'm pretty sure this is the only book on cocktails I'm ever going to need.

LOVE THIS BOOK!
I’m a very visual person, who doesn’t like to read tons of instructions for a simple recipe. This book is perfect for me. It has a simple basic table of contents, where you can look up recipes for the specific type of alcohol you want to use. Every recipe has a gorgeous picture to aspire to. All of the recipes have the ingredients listed visually on each page. It’s so easy to decipher, I just love it. Some of the ingredients I have on hand, some I don’t, but I am excited to buy and try some new ingredients. Tip: since the drinks don’t usually have a lot of liquid, but are quite strong, I like to add some plain carbonated water to them, and it makes the drink a lot bigger and lasts longer. I did that with the Mojito, and it was delicious. I’m going to have a lot of fun this summer experimenting with these recipes. Woohooo!

Love love love. It's great for the pedestrian drinker with fancy friends.
I admit that I am not a “fancy” drinker. I drink beer, wine, and whiskey neat. I have never really been a mixed drink sort of person (margaritas notwithstanding) but I have friends who are. This book is great for a guy like me.I have to admit that my wife and I had quite the time testing out various recipes in the book… probably too many recipes if I'm honest, but still it was a fun weekend. The book is laid out in a very easy way to understand, and all the recipes are ridiculously simple.Honestly, if you casually entertain, you should have a book like this. It's much easier to follow the simple ingredients in these recipes than in the standard home/professional-bartender type book. In the end, if someone's coming over to my house and complaining about my drink mixing skills, then they probably won't get invited back anyway. If you want something super fancy go to a super fancy restaurant. This book suits me perfectly. It's fantastic.
