id say in a general sense yes you can, i can also put a desktop pc tower directly on the carpeted floor, from the previous console deck designs there are air vents on every side of the console case. id think the stand allows for proper airflow

Q: Do discs ever fall out?

No Discs never fall from PS-3 as per my experienced for this vertical stand.

Q: Would this work on a slim Playstation 2?

Q: Does this stand work for 500 Gb PS3? Not sure what else it's called.

Yes. I have the 500 GB PS3 SLIM. This stand is only for the PS3 SLIM any size Gb. The PS3 Slim is the one with the sliding door for the Blue Ray disk compartment. Also, this screws into your PS3 on the left side where the gray dot with the PS symbol is. Just beware it does take a month to get to your front door.
