Obviously you’re at the mercy of what kind of printer you own when deciding what toner cartridge to buy. We have a Lexmark C792de printer, and therefore for black toner this is what we have to use.It’s rated at 20,000 pages, although I generally get 17,000 pages out of a cartridge. I wish the photoconductive drum (the shiny blue metal roller) wasn’t exposed: you have to be careful when handling to ensure you don’t touch the drum, which can cause defects.Print quality wise, the black cartridges always seem to work well. We’ve had problems with the other colors for reasons that elude me (smearing magenta for instance).I appreciate that Lexmark has a return program, so I don’t have to throw out a depleted cartridge. For a while Lexmark stopped including the return label in the box, instead forcing you to go online to order (completely free) return labels, which was weird. It seems they’ve gone back to including the return labels in the box, tho.One tip for extending the life of your color cartridges, at least on the Mac. If you are printing black and white documents, manually select monochrome printing in the print settings. Even if your document is just black and white, if you print in color it’ll use a small amount of color toner. Religious usage of monochrome printing mode when printing black and white documents has resulted in us replacing the color cartridges every 2 years or so, instead of every year, with no noticeable increased frequency in having to replace the black cartridge.
