Microvisorhood - a mini hood extension for your microwave over the range -STAINLESS STEEL

This product does exactly what it is designed to do, which is to extend forward the area above the stovetop from which the microwave fan is able to draw in air (and steam and smoke). Some of the low reviews of this product, if you read them carefully, are based on problems with the microwave and not this product.I've tried a number of things to get my microwave's built in fan to capture more of the air above my cooktop BEFORE I installed this hood extension: 1.) Had an external vent installed (by a contractor). Ran a flexible hose out of the top of the microwave's fan and configured the fan exhaust so that it sends air to the outside flex-hose and not back into the kitchen. This is an option that was designed into the microwave. This made only a small difference. Noticeable reduction in smoke, but not major and not enough to prevent the smoke detectors from going on when we stir fry or pan fry. 2.) Moved the oven's power outlet, which is mounted on the floor behind the unit, so that it is flush with wall. This allowed me to push the oven one inch closer to the wall behind it, giving the fan an extra inch of coverage. But this didn't help noticeably. 3.) Tried turning the microwave fan on 2-3 minutes before starting to cook. This didn't make a noticeable difference, either. 4.) Installed this hood extension. This has made by far the most noticeable difference in reduction of smoke. When pan frying, instead of having to open up every nearby window and door, we only had to open to windows. Smoke detectors did not go off. When cooking, if you look at the smoke from the right angle, you can see how much of it is going into the fan and how much is escaping into the house. This hood increased the amount going into the fan from around 20% to around 80%. It is possible that the increase would have been less if I didn't have the fan exhausting to the outside of the house. No way to know without reconfiguring the fan to vent inside and do a comparison test.Keep in mind that there are so many factors that determine how much air a fan is able to pull. Each situation is unique. But I can say confidently that this made the most visible, dramatic improvement of any of the fixes i've attempted so far.As another review mentioned, it does reduce your visibility of the entire cooktop. You have to kneel slightly in order to get a full view of the rear burners and oven controls, but that is not really the fault of this product. Its just the tradeoff you have to make. If you want to capture more smoke without removing your microwave and installing a real vent hood (which is high enough to permit full view of the cooktop), you have to live with some reduction in visibility. Having to kneel slightly to see back burners or the clock is a fair tradeoff for not having to redesign my kitchen to install a vent hood and accommodate a microwave somewhere else.Its great that I can easily remove this (and store it in the small gap between the side of my refrigerator and the wall) and easily install it only when I need to use it. Which is not every time I cook. We only stir fry or pan fry once or twice a week on average. So it doesn't feel like a burden or inconvenience to use.It shipped and arrived on time, was in great condition, and I was able to install it in under 30 minutes start to finish. I am moderately mechanically inclined, but this didn't really require much of that skill regardless. Unscrew three screws, figure out if you need to use the spacers, install and tighten screws. I found it to be very well made, sturdy, high quality materials and workmanship.

Use your microwave and have a hood. As far as I know this is the only product like this in existence. I’ve used mine for about a year now. Is it perfect? No. But it is worth the price as it drastically cuts down the smoke/steam/smells. You can actually pull the visor out almost another inch as well if you need a little extra coverage. I love to blacken foods but I also want all the counter space I can get. Even at 6ft tall and I can easily work with the back burners. There is a bit of relearning in your brain, but in a couple days you’ll never want to go back.

I brought this product months ago but wanted to use it for a while before writing my review. This hood does a great job preventing grease and steam from reaching my cabinets. It works exactly as described and I'm even more happy because I just installed new cabinets. I noticed a lot more grease on my stove after frying. I guess what doesn't go up has to come down and it's easier to clean the grease off the stove instead if the cabinets. Installation was easy once I received the right spacers. Customer service was great and responded quickly. I highly recommend this product.

We installed the hood on a GE microwave. The hardest part was looking upside down for the screw holes. We didn't need the spacers. The hood works pretty well trapping most of steam and protecting the front of the microwave and the upper cabinets.

My wife lives on the edge of a panic attack whenever we use the range to cook dinner because we have what appear to be ultra-sensitive smoke alarms in our apartment and they are, of course, conveniently placed where any smoke from the kitchen would set them off! Further, our 9' ceilings make temporarily disabling/disconnecting them a small project AND the upstairs alarm appears to be linked to the downstairs unit (?). Sometimes, even toasting a slice of bread can sound the alarms and alert the local fire department to our situation (nothing like having the fire trucks in front of our unit and explaining; it was just a piece of toast!).The Microvisorhood effectively captures cooking fumes from our gas stove, allowing us to cook our food worry-free (although there is something to be said for regular take-out Chinese food and home delivered pizza in place of actual cooking :). It's an innovative, effective & patented design that is uber-easy to install, and it allows you to upgrade your over the range microwave to do the venting job it is supposed to (but rarely does) as opposed to having to replace it with a range hood.

I searched high and low on the Internet! And finally found this great product! It can catch 90% of the smoke. I am super satisfied with it. Only the price is a little too high for me. I wish it were more affordable.

This hood is a Life Saver, from cooking Boiling stuff, my Overcounter Door Microwave no longer getting wet do to vapor while cooking on my Stove. Its really easy to install only 4 screws under Microwave and slide in the hood. I ended up putting a little of silicone glue to hold the hood in place ones you slide it in.

It is the exact solution I neeeded and accomplishes what I wanted. Yes it’s right in your face so you have to be careful to not hit your face on it. Fortunately we are short so not a problem but it does make it harder for my wife to open and reach into the microwave. Still would not change my decision to have one as functionally it’s great. Took two minutes to install.
