Spike: The Penguin With Rainbow Hair (Ocean Tales Children's Books) Review: Cute story line and drawings! - Cute story line and drawings. Perfect gift for pre-readers plus simple words for early readers. A very sweet book! Review: Beautiful Book - I absolutely loved this book. I loved it so much I read it to my husband. He laughed and said I was being a teacher. However, he loved it as well. I am a sucker for stories that rhyme. They did a wonderful job with that. The story is of a young penguin born with a tuft of rainbow colored hair on top of his head. His parents are so proud of him and name him Spike. Spike is not fond of his hair and tries everything he can to make his rainbow colored hair go away. The lesson to be learned is that we are all different and we don’t need to be the same to fit in. This is a wonderful book to teach such a wonderful lesson geared for the youngest of children. The Illustrator, Zuzana Svobodova is a wonderful artist. The colors she chose are soft and colorful, except for his bright tuft of hair. The penguins are cute and cuddly. I kept thinking that I would love to have a stuffed penguin who looked just like Spike. I personally think it would be a beautiful addition to go with the book. I will still share this with my grandchildren. They love reading them even if they are older and read on their own. It is all in how you present it to them. Highly recommended to parents, grandparents and teachers.

Really cute book about being different
My 7 yr old son has high functioning autism, I really enjoy when books for little kids shows that other characters accept the characters the way they are and embrace the characters difference in the story. My son really really enjoyed this story and the colorful illustrations.

children's
The penguins watched as the egg hatched. They called him Spike, he was different. Spike had rainbow hair. When Spike jumped in the ocean nothing happened to his hair. I do not receive any type of compensation for reading & reviewing free books from publishers & authors. Therefore, I am under no obligation to write a positive review, only an honest one. An awesome book cover, great hand-drawn colored pictures, charming illustrations & proper font & writing style. A very professionally written children’s (preschool/elementary age) Penguin storybook. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters, settings, etc. to keep track of. This could also make another great children’s educational presentation (be happy with how you were born), Penguin movie, an animated cartoon, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an extremely easy rating of 5 stars. Thank you for the free author; FreeBooksy; Amazon Digital Services LLC. Kindle Mobi; book Tony Parsons MSW (Washburn)

4 and 6 year old niece and nephew loved these books!
I’m an art student and I saw this and the other Northern Lights orca book by this author and illustrator duo, and I just had to get them. The colors jump out at you and really captivate, and the stories are very cute. I’m glad I bought these. Usually my SIL prefers we buy board books for the little ones, and I totally get why; kids tend to rip the pages of regular print books. Luckily the youngest is beginning to be gentler with her books, so I took a chance on these beautiful books. They’re still in one piece and I gave them as Christmas gifts. Purchased 2 of her books for my 4 yo niece and 6 yo nephew; they love them.

The kids loved the messages: it's ok to be different and you don't need to be the same as others. Everybody is special their own way and you don't have to be sad to be different. We are big fans of Zuzana's work as well and always enjoy her illustrations. Spike is one of our favorite story, we have read it several times. Highly recommended!

I really like Spike. The book is cute, the illustrations are outstanding and the message it brings will have your children think about acceptance, how to blend in and be reminded that you don't always have to reach other people's expectations. I must confess I expected a little more, but still, great read!

I really loved the message in this sweet, colourful story. A message that is very important in this day and age. Self acceptance, being happy in your own skin and realising others don't often view you the way you view yourself. Bright and cheerful illustrations with a lovable main character, Spike. A wonderful story for little ones to enjoy and learn from.

My son asks to read this book over and over. He loves penguins but he also connected with the character in so many ways. My son is the only kid in his kindergarten class with curly hair, he is often bothered by people playing with his hair or touching it and sometimes doesn't like it. So when he saw that spike felt the same way and his hair being a rainbow was cool in my sons eyes, it was an instant connection. The book is beautifully illustrated and the story is wonderful at expressing learning to love yourself the way you are. I will recommend this story and will purchase more books by this author in future.
