Q: How does it work with oak frames?

Hi Fred: It works well with all the woods we have for frames, including oak. We have tried many different ways of fitting and this has been the best!

You don't load them you place one on the frame then insert it

I was a professional picture framer for many years. This tool causes much less disturbance when framing fugitive media (dust-generating art) than the gun that uses pressure to shoot nails and points into the frame quickly. With this tool, you can squeeze slowly as you guide the fastener of your choice into the wood. A few additional tips: 1. Pre-drilling tiny pilot holes will be even easier (before you fit the art) if you are working with hard wood. 2. Always mat your pastels with a reverse bevel mat - create an invisible mat layer that is about 1/2” bigger than the visible window. This elevates your mat and creates a dust catching shelf no one will see. This can be done with scraps. Just stick with 100% rag for any mats that come in contact with the surface of your art. Only attach your artwork at its top- do not tape it all the way around. 3. When you are ready to fit it into the frame, set it over your clean glass, art and backing sandwich and DO NOT FLIP IT UPSIDE DOWN! If you can squeeze those brads in using the edge of the table, you will disturb less. Same goes for dust cover, hardware and wiring- you can stand it vertical, but never put a pastel glass side down. Anything you can prep ahead (like applying double-stick tape to the frame back for the dust cover without peeling the top, and drilling screw holes for hardware) will help keep your project more stable.
