they are a bit on the generous size. so order a normal 34

What size should I order? I'm a 16

I'm also a size 16 but busty so bought an xxl. It was enormous. I'd go with either a large or an xl depending on your bust size.

Where is the size chart for UK sizing?

Not sure about the size chart. Am a size uk 8 and I ordered a small which was too big. Sent item back.

Does the built in shelf have stron elastic at its base edge or is it just an internal stretchy piece of material?

It does have an elastic band sewn into the bottom of the shelf, the kind of weight that is often on the underband of a bralette. It helps to keep everything still. It has a generous boob size, I wear a C/D cup in bras and I could have done with the shelf being a touch smaller/tighter.
