How heavy is the bag itself?

The bag isn't heavy at all, maybe a pound, my wife's shoulders are sensitive to heavy purses and this doesn't affect her at all.

Can you fit a water bottle in the outside side pockets

I found the bag was a bit tight - hard to find things but I am a purse stuffer. If you don't carry many things then this will be a good purse for you. You will not be able to fit a water bottle in the side pockets.

how long would this purse last if it's the only purse owned?

I have had this purse for 2 years now and it's the only purse I own...it has held up perfectly. No rips or damage of any kind.

What is the length of the straps on the bag that are not removable?

The attached strap is about 14 in. which for me, is plenty long enough to wear on my shoulder. I don't even use the attachable strap.
