No, they are not large enough to clip directly to the poles. Simple solution is to loop over the pole and clip back onto the rope.

how do i release and lower an object from the ceiling, do I need to physically push or switch lever on the ratchet, or just with the rope itself?

Use the lever to release the tension and adjust height. Be careful and don't let it free fall on you.

Can you use these outside in a covered area?

I would if that's where I needed them. Mine are in a small greenhouse for adjusting the height of lights. Probably the same as an outdoor covered area.

Depending on the tent that you use, You may need to learn various methods of tying these. However the product itself works great, Nothing's dropped in my tent, despite my best efforts. Raising anything clipped by this can easily be raised by one hand and a pull upwards. I'd buy again but ive not needed a replacement as of yet .
