Cyalume 9-00721 Snap Light Stick, 6", Red (Pack of 20)

I know it says these are not toys, but I have a couple to my kids to play with on a camp out this summer. They lasted well over 12 hours - in fact you could still see some light the next evening as dusk set in. They would be very useful in many emergency situations as well - they are extremely bright and after activation (which is very easy) they get bright very quickly. We got the red version and Ia very impressed with the quality.

I remember this this is the brand given out in the military. Bright and long lasting. Never had a dull one yet. They do have expiration dates but I have gone a few years past it with minimally reduced operation. Still works as advertised. But I’m sure the duration starts slacking off. Easy to turn on and nice sized hole on top to run cordage through. These are a must have for storm prep. Mind you it’s not going to light up a room but good enough to read by if held close and outstanding for marking and visibility if you choose to have each member of the family carry one. (Great use for the hole on top). A must have for any preparedness kit.

Pack of 10 ordered via Contact Left Limited, delivered two days later. Genuine Cyalume products with a 4+ year use-by date (it is Feb 23 now and the use -by date is 06/27). Tested one: It took some force to snap the internal capsule, which is a good protection against accidental activation. Good red light visible from afar as a marker. Illuminates an area of about one meter. When held close to a page it is sufficient to read with. Started to fade after 13 hours. In my opinion, if you need one for a first aid kit, find a white one - there are high intensity 30 minute versions for such uses. If you need a general light, the red are best and do not affect your night vision quite so much. I only ever use Cyalume after I found that the cheaper products occasionally simply did not work when I needed them
