Returning an item
I paid £6.35 for this item. It now costs £4.09.It is 21cm diameter but needs to be 22cm for a 21cm frying pan. I tried unsuccessfully to return this item. Chat offered to arrange this for me by collection but I never received the labels. Another Chat informed me that Hermes would bring the labels and I was given a day and time frame for collection but they never turned up. It was apparently up to me to contact the seller which I have now done three times via the Amazon website but have never received a reply. An A - Z claim was filed by Amazon and then later withdrawn with a very curt e-mail directing me to return the item by registered post with a list of instructions for the labelling to a named individual at an address which was not the same as that of the seller and did not mention the name of the company. I queried this on Chat and ascertained the email was from Amazon. I was again informed the item could be collected from my home and this has been arranged with a full refund credited to my card. I also phoned Amazon and this was confirmed by email. However, I received no confirmatory email from the advisor on chat which I contacted again to request this. The Chats have all been extremely lengthy and repetitive and I was informed that all the previous information I had received was incorrect and I would have to return the article myself. I found the information on the returns section of the website had changed and I could no longer post the item but had to send it exclusively via a Hermes collection point, pay transport charges myself and with no other options available. I have no collection point near me, no transport and they are not easily reached by public transport. The discussion with Amazon surrounding this has now been going for around two weeks.Taking into account the cost of a return, the refund on the returned item and all the hassle involved is hardly worth while and I am considering donating the item to charity. It has also destroyed my trust in Amazon and those who work on Chat. Had I not accepted for Chat to organise the return I might have been left with more options to chose from.My one star is for my very negative experience with Amazon and not for the quality of the product which would probably serve its purpose if available in the correct size.Having corresponded numerous times with Amazon on this issue, I await a solution for the collection and refund of this item and a full apology for all the misinformation I was given and inconvenience caused to me from their senior management.Instead of the collection which was confirmed more than once on Amazon chat, I received an email to return the item to an address where there was no mention of the name of the firm and an address that did not correspond to the details of the seller on Amazon’s website. The only option for return the seller offered was via a Hermes collection centre but there are none near where I live. The cost of registered postage as instructed by Amazon that customers have to pay themselves was just under £2 less than the cost of the item! Not wishing to pay these additional postal charges of just under £5, and not wishing to take it back home, I took the item to the nearest charity shop.Hopefully Amazon and their managers read the customer reviews and I still await a full apology.

Poor Quality Assurance
We all know that Metaltex isn't a premium brand but it's on the whole a steady brand. They slipped up here. The mesh is really slack and the edging doesn't appear crimped on tightly at all. I expect it all to fall apart soon. The sad thing is that I have a huge Metaltex splatter guard which must be at least 15 years old. It's solid and dependable which is why I specifically looked out another by the same brand. Disappointing, but isn't it the way with most goods these days?

Ideal
I wanted a small splatter screen for use with small frying pans in the motorhome. This one is 21cm and is just big enough to fit. The others on Amazon are 20cm and are just too small as a small pan is actually 21cm!I really wanted to buy just one but amazon force you to buy 2 which knocks off a couple of stars in the VFM as effectively it costs over £8.

Value for money, well...
I think it was only a fiver or so that I paid for it, and I guess that fits the value for money category well. It's very, very flimsy and feels like it'll rip/break if one is not very careful with it while using/washing. I just couldn't find a similar design with a long handle to hang off a hook that's better quality and sturdier. If I did I'd be happy to pay more for it.

Splashes still happen
Although this definitely cuts down the amount of splashing oil when frying, be aware that you should use it on a smaller frying pan, as it doesn't sit square on a 29cm pan and also warped a little in the heat too. However, not bad for the price paid.
