It's dimmable and is LED but don't expect same brightness
After trying a few of these LED's R7S, this is the first one that works with my dimmable lamp. Its a bit more expensive but cheaper ones usually flicker and this one doesn't. The only downside is that is no way the same brightness that i used to have with a standard halogen and it doesn't dim as low as the halogen did, but is a good trade in my opinion as it uses a fraction of the power compared to the halogens. My halogen used an average of 7 kwh where this one is a mere 1, not even that, which in the current climate for me is very important. I would recommend.

Great energy saving bulb
I hunted high and low for an energy saving bulb that would fit my mother/daughter light. I'm glad to say that this bulb:a)fit in (I had to remove the glass cover, but that was no longer required given this is LED and not a filament bulb)b) It turned off (a cheaper alternative I tried did not!)c) Did not flicker (a cheaper alternative I tried was constantly flickering)d) Was dimmableSo all in all, you get what you pay for!

it is a dimmable light - that actually dims without flickering
over the years I've tried many 'dimmable' LED replacements for applications and found most tend to flicker if they work at all.Philips has a good name historically so, although quite expensive, I decided to give it a go. Some of the images of cheaper unknown brand LEDs put me off those.I've not used the light much but when I turn it on it comes on and the brightness can be varied without any signs of a flicker and so far no problems. it's bright enough for the room. There is a little bit of electronic buzz from the dimmer unit on my light but it is not that noticeable and to be fair I can't remember if it made the same noise with the halogen anyway.

Severe Flickering after 20 months
This seemed like the perfect solution. Purchased in December 2022, it worked well with my dimmable lamp but recently has developed a severe pulsating flicker on anything other than minimum or maximum setting. Anywhere between causes it to pulse, and even on maximum there is a slight flicker.I expected better but will have to try another product.

Lasted less than a month
Seemed great to begin with, then the flickering started. Almost exactly 1 month of use and it has stopped working altogether. Not worth the money

Hugely better than R7S linear tungsten-halogen floodlight bulbs
Four years ago I replaced the 80w 1400 lumen R7S tungsten-halogen tubes in each of four indoor wall-lights with these 14w 1600 lumen corn-cob bulbs. One corn-cob bulb has just failed after about 7,500 hours of use (which is poor since they are advertised to last 15,000 hours) but the other three are still working at peak efficiency which is easy to tell as they appear no dimmer than their newly-replaced counterpart. Meanwhile, for the last four years, the corn-cobs have been 14% brighter and over 82% cheaper to run than my old tungsten-halogen tubes. An excellent state of affairs! What's not to like?

Works well & cheaper than halogen
Simple to fit, nice white light - seems bluer than 3000k - certainly not the warm halogen glow. However it dims & that was the main point for me: I can have it bright when I need & lower for movies. No flicker, no noise - just works very well.
