I got ~85% germination using a mix of equal parts perlite, vermiculite and peat moss (or maybe a bit more peat) in plastic seed trays, on a heat mat set to 80°f. After most germinated I brought the mat down to 70° as I read that is ideal for this stage. Using a couple spare desk lamps with LED bulbs around 3000-4000k for light, 18 hours a day, plus whatever they get from being near a window, not ideal but it seems to be working well, if I can find another desk lamp I wanna throw a CFL in there too.. Might have gotten more to germinate if they were on the mat for the first couple days but I didn't have it yet, either way the plants seem very healthy and are so cute right now.The only complaint I have is that they switched out 2 of the varieties right when I ordered so I didn't get the mortgage lifter or yellow brandywine, both of which I wanted to grow.. But the ones I got instead still seem like good varieties, I'm curious to see how the rainbow beefsteak is. Also, I don't really like cherry tomatoes (and they dont say which kind?) and roma is a determinate which I don't like to grow, but I might do that one in a pot at some point. And it took me a while to realize that ponderosa red and beefsteak are (supposed to be) the same thing. But overall this is a great way to get alot of good varieties without having to buy them all individually, the way I see it if you can find at least 5 types you want to grow in this pack, individual seed packs are going for $4+ on amazon so you basically get 5 extra varieties free for the same price. I bought a few other interesting types separate to even things out and am very happy with what I'm growing this year :) It is so much more fulfilling starting from seed instead of just buying the plants from the nursery, plus this seed pack should pay for itself in a year or two.

Update: Late 2022 I received a packing from the seller and found an email had been sent. Cause of no communication was identified as an individual had left the position and my email was in limbo. Fast forward to now and I have planted my new pack of seeds and am seeing over 90% germination. Tomatoes TBD but they at least sprouted.Original: I had high hopes for this product and was looking forward to the flavorful heirloom tomatoes. Sadly I have had zero sprouts from this product while seeds in the same tray (some of which were also tomatoes but burpee & ferris moore) sprouted and have been planted. Not 1 seed of the almost 30 family sown heirlooms that I planted have sprouted. A packet included denotes 80-95% depending upon the variety planted. Thinking it was likely a bad batch I contacted the manufacture since I was outside of Amazon's return window (tried 2 different waves of with similar results). Sadly my email appears to have been ignored. I would not recommend buying this or any of the other Family Sown products.Update: the seller did reach out related to original email. Cause of miss was employee who is no longer with company and immediately sent a new pack of seeds. Hoping for better germination rate in spring.

What happened to my plant?
90% sprouted of beefsteak and yellow pear. I had way too many seeded so I took two and transplanted them and kept the biggest that was thriving (as pictured). One doesn’t want even look like a tomato plant but smells like one. Now sure, any tips?

Good germination rate
I planted 2 seeds per pod and had great germination. Seeds looked to be in good shape and a nice small number of seeds with wide variety of options. I'm pleased with the purchase.

Nicely packaged
Can't speak to flavor yet, but the seeds were very nicely packaged and are sprouting nicely in my indoor greenhouse.
