Question 1

is the gelatin made from pork?

Accepted Answer

Hello! Our SmartyPants Adult Complete gummy vitamins have a fruit pectin base - however, we do use a gelatin that is pork-derived for the sole purpose of encapsulating the Omega 3 EPA+DHA fish oil. We have recently released a new Organic/Vegetarian line of our gummy vitamins that will include Omega 3's from flax oil - and therefore will not include gelatin. Please let us know if you would like more information about our products!

Question 2

Does this contain iron

Accepted Answer

Hello ! We have not included Iron into our chewable gummy vitamins for a number of reasons - mainly because Iron can be harmful if ever consumed in amounts beyond your specific daily needs - and because we make a gummy vitamin that is very delicious, we didn't want to include anything that could be harmful if someone were to take more than our recommended daily dosage.
We always want you to talk with your trusted medical advisor or doctor about the correct Iron supplementation for you.
Please let us know of any other questions!

Question 3

Is the gelatin from pork?

Accepted Answer

Hello!

We wanted to share an update with you about the gelatin in this formula!
Our core line of SmartyPants gummy multivitamin supplements (those with omegas from wild-caught small fish) are currently transitioning from a pork (porcine) derived gelatin to a beef (bovine) derived gelatin. While we make this transition, your bottle may include gelatin from either pork or beef.
We use a very small amount of gelatin to encapsulate the fish oil in our SmartyPants core line of gummy supplements.

If you are seeking a GELATIN-FREE supplement - please look at our Organic/ Vegetarian SmartyPants Gummy Formulas with omegas sourced from organic flaxseed oil
or our PhD/ Vegan Multivitamin Capsule Formulas with omegas from vegan algal oil!

We stand by to help with all your questions!

Question 4

does it contain iron?

Accepted Answer

Hi! My name is Ali from SmartyPants Vitamins and I would like to address this question. Iron is the leading cause of supplemental overdose. As we wanted to make a product that tasted delicious, we decided it would be irresponsible to include Iron in the product. We wanted to know that if a child (or adult) ended up sneaking a whole bottle, they may end up with an upset stomach but not a life threatening condition. In addition, because Iron oxidizes Fish Oil, we couldn't include both in one product. We focus on the nutrients toughest to get from foods safely in the amounts our body needs. Because we need 2-3 servings of fish a week to get the Omega 3 DHA and EPA that we need, we end up not getting enough. The taste, doctors instructions to limit our fish intake to no more than once a week due to mercury risks (even higher for kids), and environmental concerns (overfished tuna, farmed salmon) all conspire to make it extremely difficult to get enough Omega 3s from fish. Vegetarian forms of Omega 3s frequently lack EPA (just as critical as DHA to your health). So while some might have difficulty getting enough Iron, it is readily available in dark leafy greens. However, Iron is also a crucial nutrient for health, and we suggest that if Iron is recommended by your healthcare professional, you use a standalone liquid product for iron supplementation.
