When is the expiration date?

As far as I know silicone does not break down and does not have an expiration date. I use it on my treadmill belts twice a year.

How many hours does each application last?

Horizon recommended 1/2 a bottle every six months, I was using my treadmill everyday minimum 30 minutes up to 2 hours. Hope this helped.

Is there any reason I can't just take the silicon lubricant that I have in the garage and get the job done?

It must be 100% silicone. Many silicon products have other ingredients in them that will cause damage to your belt and possibly other parts of your treadmill. If you look at the one in your garage I bet you will find it is not 100% silicone but has other ingredients. Theresa M.

What is the best / safest way to open the bottles? I tried a different brand because of the bottle and I regret it. Pipe / wire cutters?

For bottle ends like this and caulking tubes, I use wire cutters / diagonal pliers, or pruning shears (the anvil type is best but any should work). Scissors don't work well. Knives can be dangerous.
