Although everything is plastic the growing medium definitely works really well and the system is definitely easy to use with easy instructions I recommend it for beginners that are curious about becoming less dependent on outside sources. Be patient those seeds do not grow quickly

I got this to try my hand at growing cherry tomatoes, as my patio tomato isn’t doing well. I had an original 6-pod AeroGarden years ago which proved too small for the task, so I decided to try this garden after doing some research. The larger growing surface and the ability to raise the light hood much higher were major pluses for growing these taller plants. I also liked the idea of having some control of the device with a phone app.The garden comes with everything you need to get started except seeds. I ordered AeroGarden yellow and red cherry tomato pods which arrived several days apart. This eliminated the need to soak seeds for several days before planting them in the grow baskets that come with the garden. I ordered 3 of each, but planted two of each to allow ample space for growth. Seedlings for both appeared about 5 days after planting. I was concerned that AeroGarden pods might not work in this garden, but they seem to be fine so far.Filling the unit is easy enough. For the first fill, I simply poured water directly into the bowl and added the required amount of nutrient, then set the top plate onto the bowl. I am using the liquid food supplied with the AeroGarden pods, but I might switch to the plant food that came with the unit if I run out of the AeroGarden nutrients. I will either need to use a funnel or invest in a thin spouted watering can to top off the water level. You can see the water level in a little window in the front of the unit when the light is on. The app will alert you if the water level goes too low.This garden uses the Tuya app, a smart device controller app for many different kinds of smart devices. Once connected, the app allows you to turn the fan and pump on or off, or to set a schedule to turn the light on and off at a specific time on whichever days you choose.Connecting this garden to wifi can be a bit of a pain, as I discovered after a couple power outages and a recent router replacement. It is here where the instructions could be better, and a separate button for network pairing would make this process so much easier. You have to open the Tuya app, then press the power button for 3 seconds until the green light blinks. Then you tap add device in the app and follow the prompts. What actually happened to me was that pressing the power button for 3 seconds turned the unit off, but when I pressed it again, it came on with the green indicator light blinking, and I was able to add the device. Once the connection is complete, the power indicator light stops blinking. Today I tried to re-add the garden to the new wifi network, and I thought I’d done it correctly, but the green light was still blinking. I was able to turn the pump and fan off and on, so I thought it was just a fluke, but when the light didn’t turn off at the set time, I knew the device wasn’t fully connected. I deleted it from Tuya and started the process from scratch. I set a slightly later lights off and on schedule, and this time it worked as expected- and the indicator light was solid. Again, a separate button for pairing mode would make this process so much easier! I have subtracted a star from my review for this annoyance.This garden is easy to set up and use. If you’re like me and prefer to grow plants developed specifically for this type of garden, you can use the brand name seed pods, but you can also use the growing medium and baskets provided with the unit with some extra steps; just be sure to use dwarf varieties of cherry tomatoes and other potentially tall plants and be mindful of the available height for growing.

The only thing that has grown in lettuce anything else the brown sponge things have all just molded. So for $90 I am not getting anything useable out of it.Update 7/26/21 I had to unplug it to move it and now it won’t turn on. The power light is red so I know it has power but none of the buttons work and it just won’t turn on, not even on the app. Changing my rating

This system would be so great except for that the wifi signal can not be turned off. I read the entire material included in and on the box and couldn't find out where it talks about turning off the wifi signal. I contacted the seller both by email and on the Amazon product question submission function, and received this reply by email "If you do not want to use the app to control the product, you can just cut off the connection with the app. When you are away from home, you can use this app to cntrol your plant." Of course, we all know just because you are not connecting to the wifi signal does not mean the wifi signal is not present. The wifi signal is not good for plants or life. Other than that, the system looks great with everything you need except the seeds. I recommend this system without the wifi signal.

I have 2.the second one 1got I believe pump is not working.Waiting for response from customer service

All in all well built, easy to set up as my first hydroponics set up, includes a nice and easy to use app to go along with the set up.Comes with everything you need to get started apart from a pH kit and seeds.Only complaint is that there is a pump attachment shown in the set up manual that is not included in the kit and I can't find it anywhere online.
