Hoover F5914901NC SteamVac Plus Carpet Cleaner with Clean Surge

I got this two days before my water heater exploded and dumped 55 gallons of water onto the floor of my media room in my basement. I immediately started using this to vacuum up all of the water in the rug. This thing was FANTASTIC and a total lifesaver. Not only did it pull most of the water out, it pulled out a lot of left over shampoo that had been left from when I used my friends Bissel carpet cleaner. After a day, my rug started to smell "sour". I really didn't have the money to shell out a $1000 for new carpet and I didn't want to file a homeowners claim. So I decided to actually try to clean the rug with shampoo. The brushes really got deep down and pulled a lot more dirt out of the carpet as well as most of the remaining water. The suction on this cleaner is amazing. It is super easy to assemble and use. I would definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a good quality carpet cleaner. The dirty water tank and the shampoo tanks are very easy to empty and reinstall. PROS: Easy to assemble Great suction to pull all the dirt out of your carpet Price was good Cleans very well CONS: The dirty water tanks fills up very quickly. It holds one gallon. So you have to empty it often.

After doing lots of research, and comparing, I'm Very happy I picked this machine. I live in an apartment, and I help take care of someone with Ulcerative Colitis, so we end up with some unfortunate stains. I needed a machine that would be able to get those stains out, and hopefully reach to the bottom of the carpet too. We were switching rooms around, and I actually bought a different carpet shampoo to help with any lingering odors - Nature's Miracle Deep Cleaning Pet Stain and Odor Carpet Shampoo 64oz (1/2 Gallon) - and on the first run through of the carpet I noticed a difference right away. The Clean Boost feature was invaluable. I only had to go over the stains twice, and there's no lingering odor, or any evidence it ever happened. I even used both of the hand tool/upholstery attachments on a mattress cover, and there was an immediate difference. I love the two tank system, and it's not hard at All to change them. If you're using the Clean Boost as liberally as I did at first, you'll go through the water relatively fast. But I did a "clean" scrub of just hot water afterwards, and I was able to get a room of 11ft by 15ft with just one tank. It's the ideal machine for our apartment, and with a bare floor attachment I can get the hardwood floors too. It stores nicely next to our vacuum cleaner too, and it's not too heavy at all. best money I've invested!

Putting this thing together was horrible! But once it was together, I do think it works better than my friend's Bissell which is more than twice as much as this one. It is super heavy so I wouldn't recommend it for stairs or lugging up to a second-floor. It is also Extremely Loud. If you are using it in a bedroom, it's best to open the windows because it actually hurts my ears. (Crazy loud!) I provided pictures of dirt from a room that was not very dirty.... I thought. What I noticed is that this Hoover picks up more dirt out of the carpets than the other brand I used. Once I figured out how to put the thing together, I am happy about it. I would have returned it if it had cost a lot more. Just because I feel like the plastic is a bit cheap, while other brands use higher quality Plastics. Still, it is Affordable and the suction is strong. Tips: I'm providing pictures for what to do with the hose, which I suggest taking off unless unless you are using it to clean the upholstery. The hose isn't used for the carpets at all. You can just set that aside until you need to plug it in. Otherwise it keeps flopping off the back. That whole thing is pretty rinky-dink and the instructions on how to attach the stuff isn't very clear either. Note: when you vacuum, the tank holding the solution will be at an angle. I thought that there was something wrong with it, I figured out that's just how it's supposed to work. Super weird, but the vacuum does do a good job once you put it together.

Let me give you a bot of background. I am a bachelor and live in an apartment. I have worked at home for the past 4 years. might have vacuumed 3 times in that timeframe. I have a similar model to this but it just squirts water and sucks it up so not too helpful. tried it once, pretty much just made the rug wet. This baby is great. The carpet is really gross so I have to take my time but just grab some beer, plug in the headphone and enjoy it. The scrubby things really make a nice difference. Looked online and found that you can make your own unapproved warranty ruining shampoo mixture so thats what i did. some oxyclaen, windex, dawn and vinegar. Just a smal amount of each. Squirt it on and get the rug nice and soaky looking. Now, dump out that mixture and put hot water in the container. Start the cleaning process. It will be a bit foamy but no big deal, the hot water will tamp it down some. I still have a ways to go but it I can see actual light at the end of the tunnel. For perspective, I was using a giant scrub brush and a bucket to do this before. That really sucked. This machine is 100 times easier than that and really works. Great suction and takes a lot of abuse and neglect which i seem to be really good at when it comes to carpet care stuff. if you are remotely like me, buy this, you wont be dissapoint!!

Update: I've been using the carpet cleaner for a few weeks now and I'm still extremely happy with it, the two attachment that come with it are great for stairs and upholstery. I just did the carpet in my SUV and it looks like new. I have not had any problems with it so far and would definitely recommend this cleaner. We purchased this carpet cleaner the day after we adopted a new puppy. I have used it many times on accidents since and I am extremely happy with it's performance. It's easy to use, has great suction and good capacity tanks. The upholstery brush worked great for pee on a sofa, bad dog... The counter rotating brushes do a great job removing stains. I have used several different carpet cleaners in the past and this is the best one I have used so far. The tanks are easy to fill and empty, the only think I would like is if the front suction panel was easy to remove for cleaning, it's held on with three screws and can be removed but I wish it simply snapped into place, I find it can collect fuzz from the carpet. Overall I'm extremely happy with this carpet cleaner, it is heavy and solid but is easy to move around and the handle placement makes it easy to carry.

I purchased this about a year ago, so I feel like I have a good grasp of how this product works (or doesn’t!)... I am about to throw this product out because I am fed up, but I also feel like it’s unfair to spend this much money on something that ends up in the garbage a year later. This is why I am writing this review, I don’t know where to start! So I made a list of terrible things about this product. Here it goes: 1-When I first received this product, I was honestly shocked at how cheap and flimsy the make is! It’s basically made from the cheapest form of plastic you can think of! It’s like a big kids toy... I should have just returned it then... Big mistake! 2- Sometimes , certain compartments just don’t “click“ properly before I vacuum, but the engine would still keep working without the vacuum actually sucking ANYTHING. I like to empty the vacuum off of dirt after each use! So sometimes after I am done with the chore, I go to empty off the dirt, only to realize nothing actually got sucked! 3- Even when the compartments click, the vacuum still doesn’t suck very well! The brush works really well though! so the brush gathers the dirt and hair in scattered small balls, and I just end up bending down and picking up the hair balls from the carpet with each stroke! Sometimes I miss some hair balls, so I spend the next couple of days, just bending down, picking small hair balls from the carpet! 4- I usually vacuum first without water to supposedly lift up the dirt, then vacuum again with water just to give the carpet a wash. This vacuum doesn’t heat up the water. I always heat up some water in the kettle, and fill the water compartment with hot water! Otherwise, don’t expect hot water to come out! 5- A good vacuum should release clean water to the carpet, then suck the dirty water back up to dry it. Like I said in #1 this vacuum doesn’t really suck very well, so the water just stays on the carpet! It doesn’t dry it up. My cat hates it when I vacuum. He stays on his cat tree the whole day when I vacuum because he hates getting his paws wet. 6- There is a clear plastic compartment in the front that keeps collecting hair and dirt without actually sucking it back where it should belong. This compartment is very narrow, and it doesn’t come out! I know this because they provided me with one of these long plastic bendy sticks that is supposed to reach the narrow areas in there! The plastic stick thingy can reach the bottom of the compartment, but doesn’t offer a good leverage in the top. So all the dirt that’s stuck in there is stuck in there forever! Ewww I honestly don’t know why there are good reviews out there... I purchased this BECAUSE of the good reviews! this product is an absolute piece of garbage. I would give it 0 stars if I could! If I knew about these issues, I wouldn’t buy this at all! Not even worth a dollar from my pocket!

I had another Hoover model for 10 years and last week it finally stopped working after years and tons of use. The suction stopped working and it wouldn't suck the water off the carpet into the recovery tank anymore. I loved the one I had so I bought another Hoover, this one. I was super super happy with this one as well! Works great and I'm super pumped about the stairs attachment. It was very easy to put together right out the box. It is simple and easy to use. It isn't too heavy for me(a 5'0 female) to carry up and down the stairs of my 3 story house. I've rented rug doctor shampooers and these Hoover ones I've used clean just as well, if not better, than the higher dollar ones I've rented. I highly recommend this shampooer and other Hoover models as well. The price is really great for the quality and life span.

THIS WAS A GREAT EXPERIENCE! I LOVE THIS MACHINE. I was very concerned because every time we rented a machine, it was a mess. But we have 3 pets and a toddler so our carpets needed cleaning. I was really afraid to try it. I did look at a video on YouTube some guy made. He showed every little step & explained everything perfectly. So we cleaned! The only thing we had to figure out was once you wet the area, you can just scrub, you don't have to keep getting. It was such a satisfying chore. 1st you get all of the disgusting dirty water. Then you get a remarkably clean carpet! I can't wait to do it again. I highly recommend this cleaner! It is easy to use, easy to put water & solution in, handles well, easy to clean when done. Best appliance investment in years. P.S. I don't think the model matters... Just be sure you get HOOVER.
