Seems to heat evenly. I let food sit with a cover to give it time.
I am happy with this one. Had inconsistent reliaility of two previous ones of the same model. One failed so early it was still under warranty. Another lasted for five years. Is big enough for our purposes. So, if you don't need many special settings, this is likely a good value. It is 1100 watts. I notice on the most recent microwavable food I bought the instructions were for 1200 watts, so eventually the food manufactureres may be expecting you to get something stronger.

Excellent microwave oven
There's a question in this box that asks; "What did you use this product for?" -- Answer: 3 Guesses and the first two don't count. We went from a microwave oven that did a lot of things differently than this Panasonic oven. The former one had express buttons 1 thru 6 that needed only one touch to get the oven to go for 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 minutes automatically - and 30 second button that did the same. This Panasonic doesn't have those features. The other oven would return your item in the oven to its original position regardless of how long you set it to cook. So, if you put your cup of coffee in it to be warmed, the handle was right there for you to pick it up when it was done - not on the other side where you can't get to it. The Panasonic does not do this. The other oven had the ability to silence the beep. The Panasonic does not. However, the other oven was loud when it was cooking, and although it claimed to be an 1100 watt oven, it cooked like it was a 700 watt oven, and left cold spots in the food (never figured how that could happen). - It also had a problem of the buttons making a beep when you touch them, but did nothing, and the turntable would jerk sometimes and something sounded like it was grinding rocks as well. The Panasonic does none of these either. It is quiet when its cooking. It's an 1100 watt oven, and you get every bit of those 1100 watts. It cooks very well and perfectly evenly. - Once you learn the different way to use the keypad, it becomes second-nature and no hassle at all. Although you can't silence the beep - the Panasonic beep is gentle and only lasts a couple seconds -- not 'wake-the-dead' loud and obnoxious that goes on and on like other ovens. And you cannot mistake what power level you set it at, as it requires you to push the power level button until you get to the power level you want. The other oven made it easy for you to "think" you set the power level correctly, and then as you food is charring, you realize the power level setting didn't take. So, overall - the Panasonic oven --- without all the "features" other ovens have - is a much better oven - is very easy to use and works like a charm in all functions of an oven. Worth the price and I recommend it.

High Performing Unit with Easy Clean-up.
Well, I know this well as I forgot it too. But I have used it for several months and I like it better now that I live with it. It is true: The sensor makes sure your frozen chunk gets heated in the middle too. We don't bother with the fancy settings. We just take some seconds off the highest setting as it has more power than our old one and it does whatever we want. Very nice inner surface that is quick and easy to clean. Sometimes tricky to put the turntable holder back in but I am starting to wonder if I did kindergarten puzzles successfully so most of you won't. You just fiddle with it and it finally goes in. Probably 1 minute more than the one that died. The buttons are a little stiffer as some people said but I have found that if you slide your finger up from under the Start button and the press, it is easier and works every time whereas pressing hard and quickly does not always work. The only small thin I have found is that if you open the door and pull it quickly to get the food out, it sometimes slides toward you. They are all lighter now so perhaps they all do. Very minor issue compared to the speed and quality of the cooking and clean-up.I used Amazon reviews to finally pick this one and I am glad I did.

Not the newest but just what I wanted.
I had this exact microwave for years and love it. There is no light when you open it, just when it is running. That was something I got used to. I realize they have 'inverter' ones now, but I really wanted the same model since my older folks and I were used to how it works. After searching and seeing a post with a photo, I ordered it. The microwave did come sooner than announced, can't complain about that. Plug it in and works great so far. My older one started the clock count down but the motor and turn table didn't move unless I tapped the counter or held the top of the door shut tight. So not sure if it was just unbalanced or wanting to retire. It's simple to use and if it is anything like the old model, it should be reliable.

Not as expected
No light in the interior except when it’s cooking. No express button ( you have to push 2 buttons to start it)

Have owned Panasonic nn-su686s microwave 2 1/2 years - highly recommend!
We’ve had the Panasonic nn-su686s microwave since Feb 2018 and are extremely happy w it! One of. best purchases I've made as it's a great looking microwave w great features for a fantastic price! It works well, and is also easy to use and clean. Other reviewers mentioned missing the fact that the inside light is only on while food is cooking and not when the door is open. I was slightly concerned about this when purchasing but it’s proven not to be an issue at all for us - at all! One minor change we made: The microwave’s “feet” are a hard plastic and we felt had the potential to slide on granite countertops so we put small rubbery pieces beneath each of the feet to keep it really secure....definitely not a deal breaker for us but makes us all the more happy w our microwave. Last note, as others mentioned - read the instructions! Selecting power level, auto defrost, etc are quite user friendly but all microwaves are different so a quick read of instructions make all the features a breeze to use.

No return. Have to ship back for repairs. Have a good fire insurance
We bought this to replace a 20 year old Panasonic microwave expecting the same durability. It looks great an worked as expected for 2 months. During a 3 minute cycle the device stopped heating about 1 minute in although it was still running, maybe the fan. Then a burning odor followed and I unplugged the device. After about 1 minute I plugged it bac in and it immediately started to sound like it was running but no light on inside and turn table was no turning. Thu top of the oven was so hot it burned my hand when I touched it to move it to unplug it again. When we called Panasonic to report the problem they said they would send someone out to inspect it. Three days later we received a call stating there was no service center in San Antonio and they would send us a box to return the oven to be repaired. Wait a minute, we bought a new oven, if I wanted a refurbished oven I could have bought one. They said we did not buy it from Panasonic so we would have to accept the repair or buy a new replacement. My kids have an Emerson they bought over 6 years ago, my recommendation is to buy an Emerson. Panasonic sucks

Potente, confiable.
