Improved aesthetically
This is a really nice little unit that takes the low-level signal from a moving-magnet (MM) cartridge, amplifies it and applies frequency correction to turn the signal from a record player into something that can be fed into a normal line-level amplifier channel. Or something like a pair of active speakers. I have mine connected to a 1982 vintage Rega Planar 3 with a brand new mid-priced Audio Technica cartridge with nude elliptical stylus, and a pair of Edifier RD1280T active speakers. The result is a very enjoyable vinyl system. The noise floor from the amp is very low, certainly lower than anything my record deck would have been paired with in the 1980s. Some of the older reviews on here mention the rather home made aesthetics of the unit. The latest versions are nicely finished, with a gloss front panel with an LED illuminated Rega label when the unit is powered up, and the earth connection is now on the back with the phono inputs. I haven't tried the USB output yet.

Perfect for anyone who wants quality without remortgaging their home.
With most audio equipment, you get what you pay for, however the value for money with this is incredible. Obviously its not going to be the worlds best sounding Pre-Amp available, however, for the price, in my opinion, the quality can’t be beaten. It has a balanced, clear sound and amplifies the signals well. I find, i still have to increase the volume a little between using the built in CD player and the AUX but this is a minor inconvenience. The USB is also a nice addition and works well in reproducing the vinyl onto a laptop. As you would expect with anything made my Rega, the unit is solid build and excellent sounding. Not the prettiest of preamps, but it is small enough to be hidden out of the way. Perfect for anyone who wants quality without breaking the bank.My signal chain is Ortofon OM5E, Pro-Ject Carbon, Rega Fono, Aux Stage on Bang&Olufsen BeoSound 3200.

Now for the good stuff! I purchased mine to couple with my ...
Firstly lets just say it as it is, this is the most pug ugly piece of hi fi kit I have ever seen. In my view it does not have a front rather two backs. In addition as has already been noted by another reviewer the screws on mine are scratched and paint is missing from them. Really Rega for a company of your standing this is disgraceful, who on earth are you using to put these screws in! Having said all this it is very small and does not need to be seen, mine is hiding behind my Denon CEOL.Now for the good stuff! I purchased mine to couple with my old Rega 3 which has been in the loft for ten years at least. The Rega is at least 25 years old and has not been used for a very long time it has a Nagaoka Boron II cartridge fitted and via the little phono amp is now connected to my newish Denon CEOL N9. Up in the loft with the 3 were a collection of albums and I just fancied hearing them again, and for the cost I thought it would be worth seeing if this trio would work. Now I am no Hi Fi expert, all I know is that my albums sound absolutely superb when played through this combination, The sound is smoother and more laid back than a CD and the stereo defination is excellent. So Rega I am very pleased I purchased your little phono amp, the results make it all very worthwhile. However you do really need to get your act together and at the very least get somebody trained in the use of a screwdriver. If you had already done this you would have got five stars from me!

Audio freak
After getting a second hand rega 2 turntable I thought I'd try some upgrades for it even though it already sounded pretty good the pre amp I had was a b-tech bt 26 that's available on Amazon for about £23. the different between the pre amps is massive more than I thought it would be for £89.the build quality was superb some reviewers saying it wasen't that great but mine was its a bit of a bargain. running though my system of roksan m2 amp and ATC scm11 mk2 speakers the best speakers in the world for the money.the rega sounded natural detailed and clear.the next upgrade will be a new cartridge. a special mention must go to the seller for excellent posting service just two days and it was at my front door on a standard delivery charge thanks.

The sound is good and strong
This phono stage pre-amp works well for any Rega turntable and beyond. Although it's only for Moving Magnet pickup cartridges. The sound is good and strong. It's appearance is minimalistic but hey, it's only a phono preamp at the end of the day. A USB socket is included for vinyl transfers to a PC or Mac is an added bonus too. Overall, good sound and good value. Highly recommended.

Great product, it improved the quality of my LP to PC recordings
I used this to attach a Audio-Technica AT-LP120 USB Turntable to my PC. At the same time I completely removed the internal pre-amp from the turntable. The result was a much clearer recording. Even if you switch the turntable into phono output rather than USB output there are some noise filters that still suppress part of the music stream so giving a blander feel to the result. The only option is to cut the pre-amp out, literally, and use a superior product like the Rega Fono Mini Pre-Amp. Rega also has some very handy level controls and has outputs to USB and phono plugs.

Connected to a Fatman Blu cheapy valve amp and it all sounds amazing. Linn deck through these amps to ProAC speakers
Superb little phono pre-amp. Connected to a Fatman Blu cheapy valve amp and it all sounds amazing. Linn deck through these amps to ProAC speakers, amazing quality. Also ripped some of my vinyl to FLAC files, was so easy to do. Great little buy and I would recommend this pre-amp and Fatman Blu to any audiophiles on a budget.

ugly and not that good.
It is an alright preamp, a small metallic black box, 10cm x 2,5cmx 11cm, rather ugly with it's earth connector on the front panel rather than at the back, sound quality is reasonable but certainly not extraordinary, looks like the kind of gadgets you can see at Maplin, but more costly.

Buen producto
