Most of Europe is plentiful with history, monuments, landmarks, and works of art, as is Spain. In Madrid I found an abundance of subject matter. There's also more to see than can be seen in one short visit. However, like a "kid in a candy store" I swallowed up all I could. Since I was traveling with pencil and paper only, to avoid being encumbered, I drew as much as I could of the city. Capturing the sites with pencil also allowed me to move quickly from one to another subject matter without having to wait for paint to try, etc. While site seeing I visited a local park filled with families with children. A balloon merchant sat on a stool for many hours peddling his wares. I found it interesting that he could sit there for much of the day, day in and day out, being very calm and not moving. Because of lackluster sales this day it made him a good subject. Therefor I quickly sketched him while he was static. I'm very satisfied with this finished product. I have been given praise from others who have actually seen some of the sight shown in my gallery. Complementing me for duplicating with my artist abilities what they have mementos of only in memory or photos. Hopefully, someday I will re-visit Madrid with more time to create other pieces with other mediums.
