whats the secret for getting "back" button to work in apps like hulu on Fire TV box?

Never tried with Hulu app, but the BBC America app doesn't respond to "back" via USB when video is playing or paused even though it works fine navigating their menus. I assume it's a poorly written app, since it other apps I use "back" works fine. I use a universal programmable remote with commands learned from a real Xbox 360 remote -- the back command learned from the Xbox "B" key.

works like the fire stick remote. menu is for home button, arrow down and up are scrolling up and down, side arrows are for side by side moves
