political, controversial, timely, prescient
About two years after it was published, I discovered that there was a follow-up to volume 1 (which was just ok). Bendis-Maleev is my favorite creative team, and this really delivers.I am surprised that it didn't get more press (maybe it did and I just missed it). It is set in Mr. Bendis's adoptive hometown of Portland. In volume 1, Scarlet Rue kills a number of corrupt police officers and then admits it on a variety of social media. Here, we learn about the aftermath. No give aways here - she gets caught. It gets sticky. The action here is not the point. It is societal criticism: of police, of protesters, of citizens who do nothing, of violence. It's daring and different. Great job.Maleev's artwork is excellent.

Scarlet is back
Really liking this story, almost like a modern take on the Gunpowder Plot started by Guy Fawkes. Artwork is fantastic, too.

Scarlet the millennial hero
In this second volume of Scarlet, Bendis and Maleev, the amazing duo behind one of the best Daredevil runs continue the story of Scarlet Rue after she had her life shattered by corrupt cops. The book is nicely written, and Bendis continues using the 4th wall breaking techniques that he's been using in this series to explain some of the rationale behind Scarlet's actions (ala House of Cards, Scarlet speaks directly to the reader, something that can be confusing at first but serves well to the story)The art by Maleev is striking as well, and his unique style is perfect for a story that attempts to be as realistic as possible.
