Simple, small and light.Useful capacity, for single servings.I purchased this as an adjunct to my pack-kitchen.Ideal for light-duty outings and shorter treks.Worth it, just for the cup/pot ... you get a stove, to boot!My main stove is a Coleman Multi-Fuel Gasoline stove.My main cooking pot/pan is 1.7 liters.This Esbit stove provides me with a great boil-cup and extra fuel options!Allows use of light/compact fuel cubes or kindling sized wood.Burner has well designed, integral wind-screen ... all one piece.Burner stows inside boiler-cup/pot and make a very light and compact package.The price is VERY reasonable and the kit is (very well) worth every penny.My world is a better place with this stove in it !I LIKE it ! ... FIVE STARS !

Identical to the Esbit cookset but for what appears to be a draft door in the front of the stove stand. It does little for simmering, I assume that's it's function, and the knob is both too long and not coated in silicon or some other agent. As a result, rattling inside the pot during travel causes scratching to the pot's inner wall. I dabbed a little high temp silicone on it, but I shouldn't have had to.

This is a good little cook set for solo backpacking. Its fairly light, 7.4 ounces in its included stuff sack. It will boil water for dehydrated meals in about the same time as an alcohol stove without the inherit hassles of priming, fuel measuring/storage etc. The handles stay cool.There is a bit of a fiddle factor to get this stove to work well. If you lay the esbit tablet in the stove per the instructions, it will boil one cup, simmer 1.5 cups and heat to steaming 2 cups(but not boiling) Using a tab and a half will bring 2 cups to a rolling boil faster than an alcohol stove.However, if you stand one tablet on end and use a windscreen/heat reflector, it will bring 2 cups to a roiling boil in about 5 minutes. Setting it on end increases the surface area of the fuel and gets it closer to the bottom of the pot. An aluminum foil windscreen/heat reflector reduces heat loss and focuses heat onto the pot. In fact, using it this way will bring 2 cups to a rolling boil and still have enough burn time to heat up one cup of water for Coffee/tea/coco.Use the esbit brand tablets. The "grabber" brand burn dirtier and leave ashes in the burner. No matter what the fuel, you are going to get some soot/varnish on the pot.

I was very disappointed with my 1st time use of this stove. Not only was it difficult fitting the fuel tablets in & then trying to light it, I was at a higher elevation of above 10k ft, I had went through almost two packs of matches just trying to get the fuel tablets to light. Furthemore, it would not come to a boil and only heated it to a very hot, non-simmering state. I had used not one tablet but a section of (4) of them at one time, and so I was very disappointed in the results. I do like the pot and will find use for this on my other portable stove. I'm not sure that I will be taking the stove or tablets on any future bp's with me from this experience and so it was purely a waste of my $$. They say that you get what you pay for and that is why I chose this inexpensive set, I believed that after reading the reviews it would surprise me and have great results for little spent.
