I am very pleased with everything about this product
I am very pleased with everything about this product. Im not sure i want to commit to calling it a hatchet because of the size but it is pretty awesome. Despite being made in China, this a pretty sturdy tool. Right out of the box, i was able to shave hairs off my arm which was a pleasant surprise. I was committed to beating the hell out of it prior to taking it in the field and it passed with flying colors. From batoning small 3" - 4" sapplings to actually splitting a couple of small logs, it held up no problem. After it was all said and done, i was still very sharp (went through a few bandaids because of my skepticism). I did not have much issue with the paracord wrap. If if becomes a problem in the future, my suggestion is to just re-wrap it. No need to deter would be benefactors for a minor issue. Pretty pleased, see for yourself.

GOOD SURVIVAL TOOL TO HAVE ALONG
This Farson Hatchet is a compromise tool. While not a knife it's not a real hatchet either but it has its place in your pack be it a day pack or larger overnight backpack. Much smaller and lighter than a full size hatchet which is the reason I purchased it even knowing its limitations. Works excellent for batoning small ( 4 in. ) logs into quarters or making kindling for your fire. It works great for gathering fat wood for fire starting also. I carry a very capable Falkniven F1 for a survival knife and while I know I could baton with it I just don't chose to and save the F1 and its surgical sharp edge for other survival camp chores. The Farson Hatchet is pretty indestructible as far as prying and beating on. This tool is like a small meat clever which also makes it excellent for breaking down small game for cooking at camp or even dressing out large game ( elk, deer ) for easier removal from the wilds. The longer I have this tool the more uses I find for it. I had to redo the paracord handle as it loosened up with very little use. I watched the YouTube video on a fix and while better it came loose again. I might suggest you completely remove the paracord handle and wrap the bare hatchet handle several times with electrical, gorilla tape or duct tape so the paracord when you replace it will have something to grip on to and not move like it does on the bare metal handle. This method worked great for me and has not come loose since even after lots of use. This minor issue with the handle is really a non-issue which can be corrected with little effort and wouldn't be a reason not to purchase this fine tool.I always carry lots of paracord anyway so I have been thinking of making a wood handle if this paracord handle keeps coming loose. This is just knit picking a bit but the loop on the sheath allows for a horizontal carry and I believe it would carry better in a vertical position but hey that is just me. The Farson Hatchet is a great outdoor survival tool and I would buy again and would recommend to others. Keep it oiled and sharp. It will serve you well

nice item, I have not found its niche yet
nice item, I have not found its niche yet, I do carry it when I do not want carry my estwing camp hatchet. Comforting to know I could chop if I really had to. Seems to deliver about the same blow force as my becker bk 9 often I do not carry a large heavy knife when hunting/hiking. It seem to be a good combination with a lightweight fillet knifeso far a luxury item but not a toy good quility

This thing is great. Don't go expecting to cut down anything large with any urgency, but for small limbs and trimming it is fantastic. I have even incorporated it into my camp kitchen pack, great chopper.
