Heavy, expensive, large form factor, typical limited range
I bought this radio set to replace the $20/radio set I bought my 6 year old daughter. She is now 11 and they still worked perfectly. They looked like toys so I thought I’d upgrade them. The only upgrade was really two things: they use AA versus AAA and they are rechargeable. They do come with a nice case and all the gear necessary and you’d expect at this price point: charging cradle and cords for each, ear piece, case, belt clip, and nickel batteries. They have an LED flashlight installed in the base, but they can turn on while stored in the case and drain the batteries. (Happened to me). Otherwise, they have the same, very limited range of every family, GMRS radio I’ve ever owned. The range is extremely limited. We rented a 2.5 acre island, and the radios were barely audible from one side to the other. They might be fine for two ski runs near each other, but if you can’t see the other person, don’t expect good comms. All radios in this service class have the exact same power out, so don’t even bother looking at the range claims. Power determines range on these frequencies, and the FCC sets the max power out, which is way too low in this frequency band. The hand sets seem of good quality, but are heavy and have a very large form factor. If you have large hands, you might like this. For kids, it’s to heavy and cumbersome to lug around. Save the money and buy the cheapest radios you can find. I paid $20/radio at Target for my original set.I am a ham radio operator with an Amateur Extra class license and the highest attainable.

Not impressed
We got these for skiing. The range wasn't very good and the earpiece was really hard to use with a helmet and gloves.

Good setup for the price
I've seen the other reviews, and my needs are different, so I'll say they are a good setup for the price. I was just about to spend $400 on a yellow set from a yellow tool manufacturer at the big orange box store. My reason is, I own a small service business, and we needed a way to communicate easily in and around our client's properties. That goes for both residential and commercial. We're never more than a few hundred meters apart, but we can be on roofs, behind houses and buildings etc.I'm very happy with this setup for those purposes. They're waterproof, we spray water at stuff, so this is a big plus. They look nice, although a little bulky, but hopefully that means a little more rugged as well. The set comes with a ton of accessories, including the charging bases, the rechargeable batteries, earpieces (no good for us in wet application) belt clips and more.I am well aware that the range isn't going to be miles upon miles, but using them on some rather large properties with big obstructions, we have been able to have clear two way communication all day long while on the job. I can't say if you're in something like high rise construction, that they'll work through 20 stories of concrete, that's not what we do. However, if you're a few hundred meters away behind a building or house and need to pass information to an operator at an equipment trailer way out in the road, then these work great.Having the charging bases is a big plus for us, because they'll get used five or six days a week. Being able to reach the guy on the other side of the property without walking back and forth will save us a bunch of time, it already is.My needs are simple in comparison to others, and their claims for range seem much more realistic than products that say 32 mile range, with no explanation of how that will work. For me, I am actually quite happy with the set. The case is nice, but we'll never use it as these will be on the job, back on the charger at night, and back in the field the next day. These are great for our needs, but you'll really have to shop depending on what your specific needs are. Power is somewhat equal to range, so if you need more range and have more obstruction then you might want more power.I personally have zero complaints as to the power and range, and I'm very happy with the assortment of things that came with it. We were originally thinking the earpiece would be the thing we want, but I'm not sure it's 100% waterproof if you open that side flap to plug in an earpiece all day. Overall, I'm pleased and they are fulfilling my needs.Your mileage may vary, but this is a nice quality set at less than half the price of the one I mentioned that I was looking at. The other set was the same wattage, similar construction, etc. Comparing to those, which were said to be fantastic, these are a really great buy.

Long Range Communication
I was impressed by the packaging of this Gocom walkie talkie set. The amount of goodies neatly packaged that came with it caused an eyebrow raise to dance across my forehead. It looked a bit overwhelming at first, being the devices have so many cool high tec features, but after reading the manual a couple times and spending an amount of time with them in hand, it became second nature. The devices were a pleasant forest green color, while the base was black and firmly planted when placing the two devices in it to charge. The LED lighting made for a visual delight as we used it. These waterproof walkies are professional devices and create a strong signal when it’s time to communicate with each other. But a signal range of up to 3 miles in my neighborhood? Huh. We’ll see about that. I tested these Gocom devices on my next morning walk. A quarter mile? They worked fine. No static. Half a mile? Same difference. Ok, a mile? Yes! Being I didn’t have a boat to test the open water range of up to 14 miles, I decided to hop in my pickup truck and watch the odometer until it hit 3 miles exactly. And…? Wow! My son and I held a 3-mile apart walkie talkie conversation. Gocom knocked it out of the park, and we can enjoy our next nature hike with a bit of peace of mind when we find ourselves separated in the woods.
