You can mount it next to the outlet or above and it would work.

Q: does the open face plate fit the longer kitchen and bath GFI outlets with the test and reset buttons?

Yes. Mine is in the bathroom with the square type GFI with the test and reset buttons. It comes with two faceplates, the square type and the oval type.

Q: Any Color other than white being offered?

Hello there,Right now these are only offered in white, however you can paint them any color of your choice to match/clash with your wall. I'd love to see a photo if you do so! Kathryn @ECHOGEAR
