I bought this as a gift, as this was the specific one the person wanted. However, I own on that looks almost identical, and has identical functionality, for about 1/4 of the price. Both units read to within 0.1 degrees of each other (and forget what anyone on YouTube tells you: your steak does not need to be cooked to within 0.1 degrees). Summary: well made, nice display, probably not worth the price unless you simply want this particular unit.

**** Update, August 2, 2024: Although my unit failed and I wrote this critical review, I've quickly had to change the review back to 5 stars. I really did love how the thermostat worked, but I couldn't in good conscience give it a good review if it wasn't reliable. After I checked that I couldn't do anything through Amazon, I contacted Thermapro directly. All I needed to do was register the product on their website and they automatically extended the warranty to 3 years. I then filed a claim and they sent me a brand new unit, which is a newer and more expensive model, and it has a 10 year warranty! Pretty good service. I don't believe something this expensive for a digital thermometer should be disposable, and I believe firmly that it should last a long time. I've had others last 10+ years. I purchased this unit and thoroughly enjoyed using it since November of 2022. Last week, July of 2024, it died. I replaced the batteries and it work for the day, but the next day, dead. Another new battery, it flashed ERR on the screen, shut off, now it's done. No display, no blinking, dead. I certainly expect my 50$ to go further than the less than two years that this lasted. I looked for a seller contact, but no luck. Bottom line, this works well when it works, but I see I am far from the first to note it's limited usable lifespan. Also note that it's not like I use it daily, I'm a home cook, so maybe weekly.
