Sauder Shoal Creek Armoire, Oak

Bought this several months ago- and am just getting around to writing a review. The construction was a project that soaked up an entire evening. Although the armoire looks great (smaller than I had expected, but then, I shouldve have looked at dimensions and made measurements). The color is great - not too expensive looking, but not cheap either. I'd recommend this for a nursery/ office room etc - not a more visual spot. And then here's my big complaint: despite following instructions to a t - I never have gotten the doors to align straight when closed. That makes it looks quite cheap. I tried again and again to take them down and put them up again - but to no avail. It leaves a huge gap between them when closed, and along the side seams of one. Also beware that when open, the doors do no swing to the side all the way - they will point right at you - for figure that in for space/ esthetics.

I am overall somewhat disappointed with this product. When I was looking at it online I couldn't find a description of what kind of materials are used. I assumed that there would be some MDF with veneer, however when the item arrived I realized that it's ALL MDF with veneer. The backboard is nothing more than cardboard. I was hoping that at least the front panels would be real wood. Assembly is not very difficult for an experienced DIYer.I've purchased Sauder furniture products before and have been happy. Unfortunately this item is at the bottom of the materials pile. Honestly, you get what you pay for. I thought I had found a great deal with a Sauder product that looked good in photos --I should have known I was buying an MDF/veneer product. I wish they had the same item with more real wood, I would have been interested in purchasing that even for 50% higher price.

After reading the mixed reviews I hesitated buying this product, but for the price I decided I'd give it a try. No regrets. Well worth it IF you have another person to help and IF you take the time (2 to 2 1/2 hours) to carefully read the directions and do what they say even if it sometimes sounds strange. I advise carryingthe large heavy box into the room where you are going to assemble the armoire before opening it (many pieces that could get mislaid). The doors did gap a bit but via the hinges they can be adjusted to close tightly. The oiled oak finish with pewter-colored nobs (as opposed to the shiny all white) makes it a more adult piece of furniture. It is a solid and sturdy armoire that I am using for sheets and towels. No need to add extra shelves as it comes with 2 movable ones. The large bottom drawer glides very nicely and is deep. Very content with this purchase.

I have purchased several products from Sauder over the years. I have never received a bad product from them, but if this armoire is an example of what they can do now, they have just about achieved perfection. Every piece was made with precision. The instructions were impeccable, easy to understand. It took me two hours to assemble, with my daughter assisting on the installation of the doors. I would say to the individual who said one of the screws went all the way through, you probably used the wrong screw ( I did that on a previous piece). They even have every screw outlined on the page to help you.Just read the instructions carefully and you will have no trouble.

Not the greatest buy - the initial package was delivered with broken back legs, but the company was kind enough to ship new pieces without any hassle of providing proof of concept. However, the new legs that were delivered, did not seem to have correct proportions somehow as the armoire's complete look is very poorly put together. The doors are uneven and do no synch properly, and the bottom drawer does not open when the doors are open - leads me to believe some measurement in the new pieces/old pieces is not 100% accurate. For the same amount, I am sure there are other choices available, but i opted this one for its finished look - that clearly didnt work all that well for me.

the photo makes it seem as though there are three separate drawers at the bottom--one of the reasons I chose this Armoire over others. I was disappointed to see it was merely decorative and actually opens as one single drawer.

The quality of wood is ok, its very heavy and took 4 hours to assemble, The color was dull and looked outdated, I just painted different color and it looks much better

This product is defective. When I put the doors together they hit the drawer and open the drawer of I try to open the doors. The finish scratches far too easily even when you lay down towels or blankets. It actually came scratched. I dismantled things a few times to try and get it right but my work was fruitless. Ill spend more money on a better product next time. It would have been perfect if not for the flaws.
