Awesome light, solid quality
I’ve purchased and used other Viltrox lights before for shooting some indoor video and I was impressed with the overall quality and brightness. It worked great off a power supply as well as rechargeable batteries. This light however doesn’t come with any power source. Who knows why they made decision. Just bump the price a bit and include it. In either case, make sure you pick up a 12v 2a power supply (I bought the one sold by Viltrox just to ensure compatibility). As for the light build, construction is solid and feels durable. It has a on/off switch on the back which is good since you can just leave it on and have the option to control power separately. For example, if you have two lamps connected to a power strip, you can just turn on/off the power strip for both lights instead of individually turning each one on/off. Controls are super simple. There’s one knob that controls brightness and color temp, and you simply push down on the knob to choose which you’re adjusting. Brightness can be adjusted in percentages to dial it in perfectly. None of that “dim, bright, brightest” stuff. Color temp has good range from warm to daylight (5600k) max. When you adjust any of the parameters, the number will blink for a good 5-10 seconds. You need to wait for it to stop blinking so it saves your setting. If you cut power after your settings are saved and turn it back on, it will remember your settings which is awesome. Overall a nice compact and lightweight panel light with more than enough brightness. Highly recommended.

Great light for stop-motion animation (and indoor still photography)
I’ve been using a couple of these with my 10-year-old son for stop-motion-animation photography as fill/area lights. It's great for that for covering a small set. I'd think it would be similarly good for product photography. We had previously been using incandescent lights, but the fixtures and lamps ran so hot I felt I needed to supervise directly whenever the lights were on, as concerned about burns as starting a fire. The LED’s run cool and I no longer worry about it. This also makes it easy to adjust while on and you can position close to the subject without concern. The light has a pretty good color-adjustment range, but we’re generally just gelling it (search Amazon for the Lee Filters Quick Location Pack), and it works really well like that although you lose a little output. Impressively, and unlike every other (affordable) unit I looked at, the built-in color adjustment doesn’t simply vary between two sets of LED’s, causing you to lose up to half the output as you vary from the middle color temperature. The output brightness seems constant as you vary color temp, I have no idea how they accomplish that, but it’s a great (and I think unique in this price range) feature. If you do use the built-in adjustments, the digital readout is great for stop-motion as it will let you reproduce those settings later. For the price I don’t believe the numeric values are accurate, but they do seem reasonably consistent. We’re using AC power to ensure a drooping battery doesn’t affect the output. Not sure that it would, but with a fixed location there was no reason to mess with a battery. Compared with a flash, the continuous output is nice because you can adjust while evaluating the effect in real time, much less need for test shots, and the price is almost free compared with proper cinematic lights. For still photography at reasonably low ISO, I don't think it would work well for lighting much larger scenes unless you're ok with a long exposure, as it doesn't throw much light compared with a studio flash or larger pro-grade conventional or LED studio lights, and it doesn't have the build quality of a higher-end light. But if you don't need more than say five feet of throw, it’s fantastic value for the price, and for 1/5th to 1/10th the cost of a studio LED I can replace it if it breaks.

Good portable light option
Bought on a recommendation from YouTuber Ben Johnson from his video for an inexpensive starter lighting setup. I’ve been looking for something that has versatility to set up for indoor for Photography/videography as well as taking out on location for photo and video. These work really well they’re nice and bright I like that they have the option to change the warmth on the lighting as well as being dimmable. They aren’t the brightest lights you can get it for sure. But they really hold up well if you’re looking for something for a starter kit or something compact that gives you enough lighting that you can put on the top of your camera in the hotshow mount Or on some sort of camera handheld rig with a cold shoe mount. I bought extra batteries just because I tend to go through more batteries on location then an average shooter would deal. And I’m glad I did because the batteries really didn’t hold up as well as I hoped they would but I did get a recommendation from Ben on a different battery pack that has more power to it so that it will last longer. That’s my only complaint would be that the battery just didn’t last as long as I’d hoped. But all in all these are good lights they’re versatile they have flexibility to bend forward or backward to put them into different positions. And they provide enough light to add additional lighting to my indoor lighting situation so when I’m doing video I have enough light to do indoor video while avoiding video flicker from ac powered lights. I like that the size of them is thin and they’re fairly compact so they fit in my video kit really easily I can just slide them in the only thing I wish that they had was some sort of holder to put them in like a cloth or something to keep them from getting scratched or damaged when you put them in your bag so I have mine wrapped in some microfiber cloths that I have and just stuck them in my bag that way but a little baggie for them would’ve been nice.

Works with EITHER battery or 12V power supply (NEITHER one Included)
Note: This light is packaged in several different bundles -- with and without power supplies and batteries. But all their reviews seem to merge here. So references to power supplies and batteries may not apply to the bundle you are considering! I happened to buy these LED lights just by themselves. I must dispute what another (top critical) reviewer reported. These DO in fact work with only a 12V power source! No battery required. After reading that other review, I also ordered batteries and power supplies here on Amazon for the two of these that I purchased. But in all of MY use, they work as expected with EITHER (or both) power sources. That other reviewer obviously used one of his old power sources that was under powered and not compatible. If you're using a 12V power supply, it must have an output of at least 2A (2 Amps). Yes, they are light weight. But that's what you want when mounting on a camera or small stands. (I'm using my two lights in a photo-copying setup.) I really like that they remember their previous settings when powered back up. They remember their settings, even if the battery or power supply is totally disconnected/removed. NOTE: I didn't initially think they did this. But I've now tested and retested this a lot. When changing the settings, the numbers blink for about 10 seconds until after you're done changing them. They THEN stop blinking and store the current values. (If you're testing and impatient and don't wait for the numbers to stop blinking, then they don't get saved! And as an engineer, I can tell you that this design makes great sense. It means that the little memory chip inside will last a whole lot longer than if the settings were continuously saved while you're fiddling with them.) They are bright, with my light meter indicating their output is 1200 lux at 12 inches. They are adjustable in 1% increments from 0 to 100% brightness. They are adjustable in 100K increments from 3300K to 5600K color temperature. My color meter is an very inexpensive one, so I didn't test them with it. But I'm fussy about color neutrality, and their color temperature at 5000K does in fact match what I expect. I am very happy with this purchase. I'm including a snapshot of my setup BEFORE replacing with these new lights. The new lights and stands will give me more flexibility in positioning and better color rendering, since they are CRI 95+. I'll try to update with a new picture when I finish the setup.

Impressive for price, size; Very good hot shoe mount
I never shoot video with an on-camera light. I've always gone with a faster lens. But I picked this up just in case that dreaded day might come. For the price, this deserves five stars. The hot shoe mount is excellent-- and I say having dealt with countless annoying note shoe mounts. (Some come loose easily, some are flimsy, some plain don't work.) This mount is perfect. Twisting left and right, it is a friction mount, which means not unscrewing anything to adjust, very impressive. Tilting up and down you have to use the screw handle, not bad. Concerning the light quality, I think it's pretty darn good, and at this price it's amazing. Remember, this is an on-camera light, so that's what it does-- fills in if you're in a too dark situation. You couldn't use is light as a key light for an interview. Maybe as a fill light in a really controlled setting, though. I quickly measured the brightness and color temp. Since it's so hard to find these specs online. I used a Sekonic L-758 and a color meter for these readings. At Tungsten (display reads 3300K) light output is 150lux, 14fc (foot-candles). Color temp. measures @ 3100K At mixed ratio (display reads 4300K) light output is 240lux, 23fc. Color temp. measures @ 4100K. At Tungsten (display reads 5600K) light output is 200, 18fc. Color temp. measures @ 5300K. The tungsten light looks pretty good, better than I was expecting. Overall, pretty accurate temp. readings. Again, remember this is an on-camera light, so those light readings, while low, are sufficient for the use. It also does a good job diffusing the light. I bought a Pergear LED-128T light at the same time, expecting it to beat out this Viltrox. (It's the same light Dracast sells as the CamLux SMD Pro, for over $100.) While the Pergear is about twice as bright, it's probably 3 times as heavy, and it doesn't diffuse light as well as the Viltrox. The tungsten is also a little better on the Viltrox. This light diffuses well and wide. Held 1 1/2 feet from an 8 foot wall, he beam spread reaches the ceiling and floor. (This is also why it measures so low at 1 meter.) Recommended. I wasn't given jack snap for writing this up. XD I'll try to post a review of the Pergear LED-128T soon as well if you want to compare.

*!!CAUGHT ON FIRE, DO NOT BUY!!*
Can i leave a less than one star review? I purchased 3 of the L116T led panels and 3 Viltrox brand 12v power supplies (the ones recommended) and here's what happened. The first light was the worst, it didn't even turn on when plugged in, the LCD on the back flickered and then stayed, but the light was dead. I let it sit thinking maybe it needed to warm up, then it caught on fire while I was plugging in the other light. I used a separate power supply for the second one, I was so excited when it turned on and had great color and great coverage. Right in my hand it popped, a puff of smoke came out the vent and it died. Light #3 the best of them all, stayed on for a whole 2 minutes. Just enough to get my hopes up then flicker rapidly, make a large popping sound and then die. MAYBE these work better with the Sony batteries, but damn, imagine changing those batteries out over and over. Not worth the money.

Used to Prevent Shadows
I believe this was recommended to me from one of Adam Savage's videos, it's been a couple of months since I bought this item and I wanted to highlight three times this item has been helpful for me: 1. It's been very helpful for my Engineering Graphics and Design TEK course in college. In this course, I had to draw very thin lines that need to be unnoticeable until looking closely at the drawing. When I'm drawing I always cast a shadow that makes it hard to tell if I've drawn a line or not. So I used this light panel to illuminate my paper and it made my work easier. 2. They help with the lighting of making recorded video assignments for my Public Speech and Communications Course. When I need to record a video, I had to be in front of the camera but the shadows formed by the light of my ceiling lamp don't help with creating a professional video. In fact, I was told that any assignment that involved recording a speech would be better recorded outside because sunlight is the best at preventing shadows to form around your face. But most of the time I did the recordings indoors so this light panel significantly helped with making those videos. The dim switch on the light panel is also great for when I want to find the right amount of exposure and light I want shined at my face. 3. It helps when you are taking photos of an item. When I want to put up a picture of an item online, I would first place it one a large white sheet of paper but I soon realized some shadows prevented viewers from seeing the item in detail so I used the light panel to illuminate the entire canvas with the item included allowing me to showcase it better. Here are some other notes: this light panel sits on my desk most of the time and when I was drawing I would leave it on for a couple of hours in which I do notice it does get hot but mainly from touching it and still I can tolerate the heat. This item does not come with any holder or battery and I opted to buy the cable for this light panel but sometimes I do wish I bought batteries so I can easily carry this anywhere without the constraint of wires and finding a plug, however, it's not that big of a deal since it dits on your desk for most of its life and with the cable you are guaranteed to have a steady illumination of light. In this respect, I choose not to rate the Battery life and Temperature Control.
