Q: I wear a 7 3/4. What would be the right size to buy?

I don't know about the size, but this hat is a little kid play hat. I does not look like the picture. I returned it immediately.

Q: How wide is the brim and how high is the crown?

The beim is 2 1/2" wide and the crown is 3 1/2 " high.

Q: does it have a chin strap?

Yes! I just received two hats, different sizes Large and Medium and they both have leather chin straps. The hat is made of leather. Inside the hat they say it's genuine Steer hide . It's made by CB hats.
