The Trouble with Hating You

I have one word for this novel. Gripping. I was in a bit of a reading slump this month and thanks to this amazing read, it's cured!Things I enjoyed:• The writing style: Simple and crisp. I flew through the novel as it was an easy read.• Liya: I can see why many hate her. She is snarky, cynical, rude and so much more. While her backstory redeems her a bit, it can be hard to like her. However, I loved her. Her life resonates with mine at several places and reading her character development warmed my heart.• Jay: He was thoughtful, sweet and nothing short of a gentleman. I loved how different he was from Liya, needless to say, they had good chemistry.I did have some minor issues here and there but they are negligible compared to how much I enjoyed reading this book. In short, The Trouble with Hating You is a thoroughly engaging read.

I listened to the audiobook for this one and it was just so adorable. I took quite some time listening to this and the experience was amazing. It's more like an own voices novel with Indian characters. Everything was perfect starting with the story line and the characters. I loved both the protagonists, especially Liya....and the romance between them...hate to love...was so cute. Perfect for a summer time read.

The book came beautiful and brand new.As someone who is South Asian, I related to the main character and a lot of other characters' struggles a lot!Some people noted as well that there are some triggers you should be aware of before you read the book. I didn't expect them but they don't go into too much detail and added to the characters story lines. I cried while reading the book at one point too.Definitely would recommend.

I like it

I loved this book. It is a very welcome "escape" book, good for a vacation read, or just to take a break from more intense or deeper reading. The plot is very simple: Boy meets girl, girl initially hates boy, boy says "OK fine", but can't seem to get her out of his mind, and eventually things work out between them, in spades. As I said, not too complicated. The story is told in alternating chapters, each from the characters (Liya, the women, and Jan, the man). At first it was a little cumbersome, but I caught on to it pretty quick and actually enjoyed it. Briefly, both are native Indians (from India) living in the United States, in Houston, Texas, where they are both employed (she as a permanent employee, he as a consulting attorney helping the company through some economic issues). She is a firecracker - quick with a sassy mouth, and gives short shrift to male suitors, of whom she has many (she's gorgeous, of course). He is a typical "nice guy", tall, handsome, smart, but much more forgiving emotionally. He's close with his family and their traditions (i.e. arranged marriage, etc.), while she is more free spirited. Anyway, the entire book is about the back and forth between the two and their obvious attraction to each other. She fights against the attraction, while he, in spite of her endless rebuffs, doggedly continues to pursue her. You know how it's going to end, but you thoroughly enjoy the ride getting there. It's a real page turner - you will put it down way past your bedtime, guaranteed. In short, it's a lovely RomCom novel that entertains and, as I said, provides a nice break from more "serious" reading. I loved the book and would definitely look for more novels from this author. It's not "literature", but it's darn good fun and reading enjoyment.
