Beautiful photography!
This book is a must for Sherlock fans who want to introduce him to their kids - or for those of us who are still kids at heart. The photography is beautiful, the concept, brilliant. The story itself is only slightly abridged. Reading this was a complete delight.

Cute kids' book that includes graphic references to Jack the Ripper
I bought this book for my eight-year-old daughter who likes both mysteries and Playmobil. It seemed really cute and fun, with all the illustrations done in photos of Playmobil tableaux. Thankfully, I flipped through it before I gave it to her, because I found a page that gives details of Jack the Ripper's murders! One of the characters is explaining events to Sherlock Holmes, and he gives Holmes a newspaper article to read. So the next page in the book is printed as a reproduction newspaper page with an article about the Hound of the Baskervilles for us to read to get the background info. AND there are other articles on the page, once of which is an account of the Jack the Ripper murders, including the words beheaded, stabbed, sliced open, and mutilated. Just to be clear, these are printed in normal-sized type right next to the article we're supposed to read -- they aren't minuscule letters in the background of a tableau.

Wonderful book: the version of the story is quite complex, so suitable for children around 9-11 (though might work for younger ones if you read it to them). The pictures are absolutely hilarious, and there are lots of maps and other fold out items for hours and hours of fun.
