Q: How tall is it? We want it to fit under shelving and can be no taller than 27 in.

I just got mine put together. Exact measurements are 32 1/2-inches tall with the castors installed. The diameter of the metal frame is 23 1/2-inches; however at the base, with the black plastic guards that are over each castor, the measurement is 26-inches. Great item, but very large for home use unless you have a large family. With a top on it, it would make a table for the room (you'll have to find your own top).

Q: Is there a metal bar across the bottom of it, or is it just a metal circle on the bottom?

A Metal circle, notice i left out the "just"....this thing is commercial/industrial strong, so unless your going to fill it with lead weights and I mean fill it completely with lead weights and maybe even stand on top after the fact....because there's no need for anything across the bottom, this thing is sturdy!

Q: What are the dimensions of just the basket & wheels without the raised bar? Can you assemble without the raised bar?

The basket is about 20" x 26" (wider than it is deep from front to back) and the top of the basket with the wheels on is about 25" high off the floor. You can assemble without the raised bar, but then you'll have an exposed tube on either side where it is supposed to connect. Adding the raised bar also seemed to provide additional strength to the overall design, but it's probably still okay without it.

Q: Can this work as a laundry chute hamper? I want something taller that can catch the clothes.
