Can the wings be removed?

No you can’t remove the wings. The doll is really pretty and very soft. My granddaughters love them!

Would this be a good toy for a 1 year old if I were to discard the comb and shoes?

Probably not since the doll is made of harder, barbie doll like plastic. A 1 yr. old would probably want to put it in her mouth at some point and that wouldn't be good. Wait until she is around 3 before you introduce her to those types of dolls.
