The Black Pearl Clam Chowder New England Famous Condensed Soup, 15 Ounce (3 Cans)

I ordered this chowder for my husband who is a chowder fanatic. It made the top of his list as BEST canned NE Clam Chowder to date. It is rich, with an abundance of large pieces of clams, not dominated with potatoes like most canned chowders. And the price is great!

What I liked is that there are not that many ingredients in this chowder, unlike so many canned/boxed/jarred foods we purchase. I hope they are not hiding preservatives and other additives common to processed foods. This chowda is jammed packed with minced clams, but I always add a can of minced clams along with the juice from these clams to mix in with either cream, ½ & ½ or evaporated milk. I also mince up 2 stalks of celery and ¼ onion (both sauteed') and add to the soup along with white pepper and dry or fresh dill to taste. That being said, just adding your choice of liquid (since soup is condensed) and heating up, you will thoroughly enjoy!

I've gone hunting for best canned clam chowders, and this is the best I've found. Very tasty, plenty of clams and potato chunks. I cook it up in a pan, add a little half&half and some extra mniced clams - very satisfying!

I have been on the hunt for an outstanding canned New England Clam Chowder since the best stopped making theirs (Capt. Mariner's Seafood). I have tried just about all brands I can get a hold of, and the next best I found was Iggy’s out of RI, however the first batch of theirs was good, the second was a bit thin, but still good. I gave this a shot and upon opening the can, you could see there was lots of clams, more than any other I have tried, but it seemed thin as well. I went ahead and added a half of can of light cream, which is what I mix in with all my canned chowders, and it brought it to life. As it simmered on the stove and not brought to any sort of boil, it thickened up and became a great thick soup. Packed with clams and a balanced amount of potatoes, this has pushed itself past Iggy’s (although my stock of that wont go to waste) for #1. If you like a real, thick, standard clam chowder, not the ones with bacon in it, give this a shot with the half a can of light cream and I don think you will be disappointed.

Restaurant quality soup!

This is the most horrible clam chowder I have every bought! The clams were shredded there were exactly 3 small piece of potato and tasted like fish NOT CLAMS! I took one spoonful it threw the rest out! I don't know what the people who gave it a great review were eating, or maybe they never had clam chowder ! It was the worst I have ever tried!

I thought I would take a chance on this clam chowder and I liked it very much! There were plenty of clams though they were quite minced, the flavor was great with absolutely no off taste, just very fresh and natural tasting. It was not overloaded with garlic powder or MSG or any other *flavorings*. It was really good stuff, and I will certainly be buying this again! My search for a decent canned clam chowder is now over!!

This clam chowder is the best clam chowder I have ever had from a can. Far better than "Snows". So now you are asking why only two stars ? My star rating is based on "value" not just taste. When I purchased this order, I saw the $30. price for three cans and assumed I would be getting large cans. Imagine my surprise when I opened the box to find three small cans of chowder. Progresso clam chowder is approx $2.50 - $3.50 a can. Black Pearl is very good but not worth $10.00 a can. Thus two stars.
