MAJORITY HDMI DVD Player for TV 1080P Region Free DVD Players for Smart TV

The Scholars DVD player is relatively new. I needed to replace an old DVD player whose remote has failed totally and as we have a collection of box sets and films on DVD wanted to have a way to play them without breaking the bank. The fact that it could also play CD’s was a bonus as again we have a large collection of CD’s that I have never got round to digitising! It arrived in the usual oversized Amazon box but the actual product package was closer to the dimensions of the player. It was neatly packed with the player, remote and the audio visual leads all in the box. There are no written instructions so if your need them you have to scan the QR code in the Welcome leaflet. However, I have to confess that I did not read the manual until after I had set up the player so it is not much of a hardship! Setting up the player is very easy. Connect it to the mains and then either join it to your TV by HDMI or the AV/RCA source at the back, put batteries in the remote, open the DVD carrier, insert a disc, press close and then it plays! I used both HDMI and the AV/RCA connection on my TV to see which was better but could see no difference in playback so you can pick which suits you best. In my case that is AV as my HDMI sockets are filled by an Amazon Fire Stick and my Youview connection. The picture quality is excellent and there were no issues with playback. I then tried the CD playback and using the TV speakers the results were fine. I need to get a cable that will allow me to connect the player directly to the TV sound bar but that is a personal preference. The player is small and light so finding a place for it to sit is easy. The setup screens offer a range of options but the defaults work fine. I also tried the USB playback using the socket at the front of the player. I created a small collection of photos to display and it worked flawlessly producing a slide-show without any effort on my part. As for criticism well they are very minor. I was disappointed that the remote came without batteries but as like most people I have a supply of AAA batteries in the house so not a big issue. The other criticism would be that the titles on the front of the player above the buttons are not picked out in white/silver so can be hard to read. But as most of the time you control the player from the remote so it is not a big issue. Overall, given the price this is an excellent player.

First impressions very good, easy setup, good picture and sound quality, 3 years guarantee and cheap, what’s not to like.

I’ve been debating getting a dvd player for ages and when there was a few quid off this one, it seemed as good a time as any to give it a go! It was super easy to set up, I had zero issues connecting it up to my tv, and it seems to be working fine so far. The only thing I would note is the whirring noise that it makes whilst playing a disc, I’m super sensitive to noise so it takes a little getting used to which is why I’ve knocked a star off but other than that, it seems pretty decent!

Works perfectly. Very easy set up, DVDs played without issue (I played both UK region 2 and USA region 1 discs.) Nice and compact too so it's handy for taking on holiday etc.

Absolutely amazing. Well worth the price it’s for. DVDs play really well on this and the picture quality is superb. It is really easy to setup, so doesn’t take too long to get it started. I would say that it is the perfect size not too slim but not too bulky either.

Needed a dvd player to play multi region dvds. As like many I now stream programs I didn't want to be paying a fortune. This little player is not only reasonably priced, it's well made and easy to use. Just plug in and play. What's more Majority planted a tree for this purchase. Looking at some of the other reviews I felt there was a need for clear explanations. 1. No, the buttons on the remote control are not small, there are just a lot of them. The Majority controller is the middle one of my three remotes and definitely not too small. I would suggest all you need to do is to familiarise yourself with your new remote's layout -ergo, no problems. 2. As advertised - the remote does not come with free batteries, but at the very reasonable price of the appliance you can not expect that (next people will be asking for Majority to pay their electricity bill!). It is no hardship to provide your own. 3. Once again as advertised - the package arrives with the player, the remote and RCA cables, therefore it should not surprise anyone when there is no HMDI cable included. You can buy an HMDI cable for as little as £6:38. 4. Yet again - as advertised this is a slim mini dvd player. If you wanted a bigger one, don't go buying a slim mini. Set up. I did receive a leaflet concerning the basic setting up, but actually this is so simple. It's literally plug in and play. I connected the dvd player to the TV using an HMDI cable (from my previous dvd player), plugged the electric plug into the electric socket and turned on. I have not accessed the online manual as everything on the remote control is self explanatory. Mine was set up to show English subtitles, used the obvious button on the remote control 'set up', went to subtitles and selected off. Picture was very clear, but wanted the 16:9 ratio, so once again going to 'set up' selected TV and chose 16:9 ratio. All set up, running and ready to play within five minutes of taking it out if it's box. Performance. Plays all dvds (I have not tried CDs yet and will probably not use the USB port). A very faint, gentle purr is heard when the disc is initially read, certainly a lot quieter than my older, larger and more expensive machine. Once initial reading has taken place, there is no additional noise from the player. Picture and sound are both clear and crisp. No problems loading the disc into the slot, this slot is no more fussy at accepting a disc than any other appliance I've had. You just have to be respectful of both the disc and player and look what you're doing. The remote control works quickly and effortlessly, no lag from pressing buttons, no problems pressing buttons and clear indication of which button is for what purpose, as I said before, just use your common sense and familiarise yourself with your new gadget. As an added bonus it came well packaged in its own box, which in turn was inside an Amazon brown bag to hide the contents and it arrived within 30 hours of ordering. I can definitely recommend this dvd player.

I bought this because I wanted an affordable and compact fully multi region (ie handles Regions 1-6 and PAL/NTSC) DVD player. The player is very compact, light and the aesthetics suggest it's more expensive than it is. The buttons are very cheap quality but they worked, and you can't really expect more for the price. I was impressed that it came with an HDMI cable, but a bit surprised there were no batteries for the remote. Unfortunately I did not get any further than plugging it in. When in standby mode the machine emitted a high pitched hissing/whining sound that was audible from several metres away. The sound disappeared when the machine was turned on. Given this, and the fact that this noise persisted when HDMI was unplugged and disc removed, I assume the noise was an audible coil whine coming from the standby circuitry (see video). This was not tolerable to me, and so I've arranged for a return/refund. It's a shame as the player seemed otherwise perfect for my needs and good value for money, however I have bought a different model (the Oakcastle) with the same capabilities because it's currently reduced from £29.95 to £25.45. Despite it's apparent good points, I've given the player 1 star because it was completely unusable for me, and I now have to go through hassle of returning it.

Great bargain price product. It's good to have a region free dvd player. Very sleek looking. This is a good buy.

Si buscas un reproductor DVD multizona que se puede conectar al televisor mediante un cable HDMI (como buscaba yo), éste es el que quieres. Funciona bien, reproduce DVDs de las zonas 1 y 2 (los únicos que he probado), pero ... se sirve con enchufe inglés (que se puede cortar y poner uno español, como hice yo) y, aunque por las imágenes parece que tiene función reloj, no la tiene - es el contador de los minutos y segundos de la reproducción en curso.

Bonjour , bon lecteur DVD malgré le manque d'une notice ( aucune ) du made in china mais avec une prise secteur Anglaise qui ne correspond pas du tout avec nos prises murales " Française " et je ne comprends pas que le vendeur ne le précise pas sur le descriptif de l'article car cela fait " peur " au déballage mais on trouve un adaptateur facilement ( obligatoire ) pour le branchement secteur ( ex. sur AMAZON ) Quand au lecteur bon rapport qualité/prix

Absolutely great product. This product actually got delivered from USA and made in Britain. It runs all kinds of cd and dvd and easy to use. All other Chinese brands of dvds are useless and faulty except this one.

So far it's working pretty well and thus I have no complaints against same.

Leider ist das Gerät nicht für den deutschen Markt geeignet, da ein falscher Stromstecker dran ist, der hier nicht passt. Geld wurde, nach Rücksendung, aber schnell erstattet.
