Great compressor !!
A very out standing compressor Very quite. I was amazed how quite. My old unit was a dewalt 72 dei the new one says 60 dei . Side bi side the sound is 1/3 and very smooth runing. Do not hesitate to buy this unit! Very pleased!

Remarkably quiet
I've had a larger Dewalt compressor for years (still a great compressor) but needed something more portable. I bought the California compressor because I had read that it was much quieter. It certainly is--no comparison. Although this is considered a portable compressor, it's still pretty heavy and not easy to lug around.

Ultra Quiet and Reliable, But Limited for High-Airflow Tools
This California Air Tools compressor is super quiet and well-built — perfect for mobile setups and small tools. I use it for my detailing business and it handles basic tasks like tire inflation and short air bursts very well. However, for high-airflow tools like the Tornador or blow guns, it runs out of pressure quickly and takes about 2 minutes to recharge. Not a dealbreaker, but be aware it’s better suited for light-duty or short-burst work. I’d recommend adding a secondary air tank if you want longer working time.

Quieter than expected
wow, I just received mine and turned it on, it's so quiet it's almost unbelievable compared to my DeWalt 165 PSI pancake compressor. There are videos online but they don't really demonstrate how quiet this compressor is.

Solid and Quiet
Compressor is very quiet and has enough pressure to run 2 trim guns at the same time or a single framer. The compressor I received has a rattle that comes from the brass regulator tube, this would not be noticeable on most compressors because it would be droned out by the motor. I bought this because I have young children and am doing some remodeling around my house and my full size compressor is much to loud to have running in garage. I originally bought this after hearing a friend of mine's and couldn't believe how quite it was. Compressor is not silent but is quite enough to have running inside the house with family sleeping (note:work is still getting done compressor is usually one of the loudest things on job site after saws). Silly to say but I think it calms the feeling of a job site because there is no violent screaming of a compressor in the back ground, radios do not have to be as loud and voices do not have to be raised to talk over it. Aluminum Tanks are awesome to avoid rust from forming inside tanks and spraying out when emptying tanks. Also, is light for how sturdy the machine is. I will never cheap out on a compressor again.

Unbelievably quiet!
Our previous air compressor (still works, darn it!) I tested at 95 decibels, and it really is uncomfortable to the ears, and is loud enough to be damaging to the ears. This little beauty is very well sound-isolated, with not only rubber feet, but rubber buffers between the motor and the frame for maximum, vibration free noise dampening. When I first turned it on, I couldn't believe how quiet it was. As advertised, it tripped my free i-phone decibel app at right around 60 decibels. It was quieter than medium loud speech. It's possible to work beside it for hours without annoyance. An annoyance we've had is that it might trip a ground-fault outlet when the unit starts up. Other than that, it works like a charm, and it's nice to have two air outlets, just in case you ever want to run two tools at once. The only other problem we had was with quality control on the leads to the starting capacitor. We went to start it about 3-4 days after purchase and got big sparks and a tripped breaker. After removing the capacitor cover, we found that the wire nuts used were very small and both had fallen off, and the leads had shorted, thus tripping the breaker. We installed new, slightly larger and better wire nuts and haven't had a problem since. Great product. Highly recommend. year later follow up: Still love this machine and it's been used steadily almost every day. Buying another one!

Good pump...that it. Don't buy!
This is the second California Air compressor I've purchased over the years. The first was a 10gl upright. While quiet and reliable, the build quality is horrible...and that's putting it lightly. I decided after 5 years with the last one (which is still going strong - after multiple repairs) I'd chance it again in hope's the quality has improved. This time I went with the 4gl aluminum hotdog. Out of the box it was surprisingly light. Set up took merely seconds. Install the muffler, plug it in! This one is even quieter then my other. Build quality is good on this model. Also keep in mind this model does not have wheels. Which was a major issue with the 10gl. So here's my deal with Cal Air. No doubt quietest AC on the market. They look really high end. The motors are incredible and very reliable. The rest of the package leaves a lot to be desired. Worst of all...customer service and the way you have to go about purchasing to replace a part is absurd and tremendously frustrating. I'm hoping for better results with this little 4gl.? So far so good. I did replace the couplers and hoping this mandrel doesn't split like the last one. Also hope the muffler holds up better then the previous model? I'll do an update in the following months. Stay tuned. I do recommend at this point. Update ; I have had this compressor for a little over a month. Literally have less then 5 total hours on it. Already broke. One of the supply lines to the switch box snapped off, leaving the remaing thread in the hole. Its in a very difficult place to access. To repair I will either have to replace the whole switch and all the part that go with it, or try to find some way of reading out the remaing threads. To say I'm frustrated would be an understatement. This company is something else. Make excellent pumps then outsource the rest of the build to shit manufacturing facility. Makes no sense. I'm going to fix this pos, sell it and the other one and find a brand that stands behind their products. Unbelievable. Get your shit together CalAir. Lost another customer, might ask yourself how many lost clients that makes? I do not reccomend this product. Makita makes a quiet compressor. Anything better then having to deal with this crap.
