Move over Oxbow. Science Select is a big hit with my boys
I've now been using this for 3 months and my 5 boys love it. I tried many different brands of rat food most of them got less than enthusiastic reactions. Oxbow was the only food they liked, but recently in the last year I've noticed them turning their noses up at it and looking for something else from me. Ended with me giving them too many treats to make up for it lol. Decided to try Science Select after hearing good things from fellow Rat lovers and its a major hit. The kibble itself is 3 times bigger than Oxbow and apparently much better ingredients. My boys are excited for meal times again and are eating every last crumb of it. I'll be sticking with this for now on. Unfortunately may be looking elsewhere to buy it if the price stays this way. It jumped up from 15 to 18.50. Oxbow regular 3lb bag is less than $12. This is a 4lb bag but the $18.50 price is a lil high, sad face. Hoping the price comes back down because I go through 2 bags a month with giving them fresh veggies and fruits. It would be more if I wasn't able to give them fresh foods but since I cook a lot with produce it also helps use up stuff and not have spoiled food since I like to buy from our produce junction, cheap bulk.

Absolute MUST HAVE for Ratty Owners
I have a little group of 6 Girls. When we started we fed a more easily accessible and cheaper off the Shelf Rat Food that you can find in your local Supermarket. When my daughter did research into rat foods and found that a Labblock type of diet is much healthier for them we switched. At first we tried another Lab Block without success, don't buy a 50 lbs bag of something you don't know if your pets will like it, and eventually came to this. Our Girls take a piece of this as if it was a treat, a prize, something special. They love the food, their coats look healthier, they haven't had any sniffles or sneezes from dust particles, they're a good weight (ok maybe a little bit over), and just generally seem like healthier and happier rats. If you have Ratty Children, this food will be a great Food for them, we have not regretted paying the little extra and will NEVER be going back.

The best stuff for pet rats!
I stopped using oxbow years ago, because I heard a rumor that it can cause tumors. I don't know if that's true or not. Some lady posted that every rat she adopted out, if it got a tumor, the owner would say they fed oxbow. I now only use this brand for my rats.

The only food they would eat (along with lab blocks) I was previously feeding them Oxbow but all of a sudden they turned their noses against it and refused to eat Oxbow (which was the only rat food I could source in person from pet shops that didn't have things like corn/fatty seeds in it that they could pick and choose from) I found this rat food online it was much more affordable than Oxbow and my babies really loved it. They eat it up right away rather than ignoring the pellets, once they eat this I'll give them an assortment of veggies and certain fruits as snacks (with a baby spoon of baby foot they can lick up together) that both good for them and yummy. ๐๐๐

Good new food for my rat
I used the Oxbow essentials for while before this. I can get the oxbow blocks in the local pet store (the only other they have are the nut and seed mixes and blocks that contain corn) but I have to order the adult food (the triangle shaped biscuits) online and they are constantly out of stock and do not always get delivered on time. I decided to try this brand because the ingredients checked out in comparison to Oxbow. I was surprised to find that these pieces are about twice the size and smell a bit sweeter. I don't know if it is just because the food is new to them or it actually tastes better but they have been a bit more excited for their regular feeding time compared to before. They will grab this food like treats and would not do that with the oxbow. I am sure after a while it will go back to normal but this is a good transition if you are looking for an alternative to the oxbow essentials rat food.

Passed the palette test... Adding a "but"...
We've given all our various *adult* rats this food, and they're happy with it. We scatter it in their home, and they go hunting for it and take it from our hands like it's a treat. That it's a healthy food is perfect! BUT... They recently changed to cheap bags that don't reseal with a "zipper." Dropping rating to 4 stars until the packaging is what we've come to expect. ORIGINAL REVIEW: We have two rattie boys -- one who'll eat anything that is not broccoli and one with a palette for the finer foods in life. :) They've been on a base food that probably should've been stopped when they became "adults" in rattie years. The LOVE it, but anti-Broccoli Boy is getting to be a fatty rattie. We hope to switch to this and with more exercise time, get his weight down. When it arrived today, I crossed my fingers and offered both one kibble as a treat... THEY BOTH LOVE IT! Mom likes that it's kibbles, so they'll think it's treats. ;) (And the nutritional part!!) Together with bits of fruits and veggies, we are looking forward to a svelt little rattie again soon. :)
