Reliable Soil Moisture Monitoring for the Garden and Allotment
I've been using these soil moisture sensors with my weather station setup, and they've become one of the most useful tools I have at my allotment. The sensors were easy to pair with my Ecowitt system and started reporting data almost immediately. Once installed, they provide continuous soil moisture readings without needing to dig around in the soil or rely on guesswork. I use them to monitor several growing areas, and they've helped me make much better decisions about when to water. It's surprising how often the soil moisture level is different from what you'd expect by simply looking at the surface. The sensors are compact, unobtrusive, and seem to cope well with outdoor conditions. Battery life has also been excellent, meaning they can be left in place for long periods without needing attention. One of the biggest benefits is being able to view the data remotely through my weather station system. Whether I'm at home or visiting the allotment, I can quickly check moisture levels and see which areas need attention. Since installing them, I've wasted less water and have been able to keep conditions more consistent for my plants, especially during warm and dry periods. Overall, these are excellent sensors for anyone using an Ecowitt weather station. They provide reliable data, are easy to install, and take much of the guesswork out of watering. Highly recommended for gardeners, greenhouse growers, and allotment holders alike. Oh and pairing is a breeze, simply install the battery and they autopair with my existing ecowitt setup!!

Plug n play
I already have their HP2551 weather station which is compatible with this sensor. I just put in a battery and the weather station found this sensor straight away, no set up needed. the Ecowitt app also displays its reading. Did as suggested to check it and it reads 0 in the open air and 100% in a glass of water so it seems to be functioning correctly. Included is a plastic cap to cover over the battery compartment so it seems earlier criticism of water ingress has been addressed. It's been very very wet since I bought it so the sensor (which I leave permanently in my garden) is giving me a reading between 78% and 84%, yes I live in a swamp at the moment!!

A decent working solution
I bought this so I can monitor my seedum roof on my office/shed. This lets me know when it needs to be watered. And so far its been a great help. The reason for going this route was because I thought I nearly killed it. But with this as an aid, the roof has quickly bounced back to life. It was easy to setup and get up and running. The app is a bit basic but does what you would expect and keeps all the readings on one place. I was a bit dubious of the build quality. But it seems up to the job. But time will tell on that. Fortunately its cheap enough to replace. As long as I get a minimum of a rear from it. You will of course need to buy the unit which talks to this and gives you access via wifi. But the good news is once you have purchased it. You then have the hub and ready to expand. I will be expanding this to the full weather station shortly. One thing I would really like to see is smart home integration. For exsample, once the soil on the room gets below a certain threashold, and the weather is not expecting rain for the next 24 hours. Then this would automaticly tell my automated sprinklyer system to turn on and water the roof and plants. Long term this would save money and not waste water. Of course this is great for when you are away as well.

Very good, will be buying more
I have 5 of these soil moisture sensors linked to an Ecowitt Wittboy weather station. Sensitivity is good, battery life is excellent. I have replaced the single AA battery in each sensor once in the last year. I have plants dotted around my house which is a normal 3 bed semi and one sensor outside. No issues with range or connectivity. The sensors come with a moisture cap that goes over the battery compartment and should be used to keep it dry. The sensors have an led indicator that has a dim red flash but it's infrequent and not noticeable in a dark room. The sensors give battery and signal strength data and operate on the 868mhz frequency so no interference with WiFi. They are easy to setup showing individual moisture battery and signal readings in the Ecowitt app or home assistant integration. Having tried other sensors that didn't last or stay connected these are good value for money and my plants are healthy because of them!

Pretty good bit of kit
Three years in and sadly one of our sensors has failed. Can not really argue with that. It worked well and was in a moisture sensitive plant so helped with keep up with watering.

Great sensors. But be aware of distance from hub and walls between the sensors and hub. Integrated into home assistant really well.

Works well.
Works great !! But the only problem is, the blade that you put into the soil to measure its moisture content is so wide, it cuts the roots on your plant. I don't really have a way to test how accurate it is, but I can tell you it reads 0% moisture in dry air and 100% moisture when dipped in water, so it's at least got the two boundaries right.

Works well with my ecowitt weather station and reads the soil moisture. I'm new to this and not sure how to validate if the measurements are accurate, but after watering the lawn it gets to around 90/95% and drops gradually until the next watering session.

Finalmente un sensore affidabile
ho usato tanti sensori per controllare l'umiditá del suolo, ma questo é il primo affidabile, in abbinamento alla sua centralina é anche facilmente integrabile in Home Assistant, anche il raggio del segnale é perfetto, 30m senza problemi con due mura in mezzo.

Das Plastik kann man sicher weglassen. Lieferumfang: ------------------ - Bodenfeuchte-Sensor WH51 - Gummi-Schutzkappe Qualität / Verarbeitung: ----------------------------- Der Sensor wirkt gut qualitativ gut, das Gehäuse ist aus Plastik, der Sensorteil selber aus Metall. Das Gehäuse hat oben eine weiße Abdeckung für die Betriebsanzeige. Der Drehdeckel für das Batteriefach öffnet und schließt sauber, das wirkt stabil. Beschreibung: ------------------ Der Sensor gehört zum Ecowitt "Ökosystem", man braucht zum Betrieb normalerweise eine Ecowitt Wetterstation oder WLAN Gateway. Zum Betrieb benötigt man eine AA Batterie ( Mignon), die nicht im Lieferumfang ist. Diesem Batterietyp ist die etwas eigenwillige Gehäuseform geschuldet, dafür hält so eine AA Batterie aber auch deutlich länger. Der hier bewertete Sensor sendet auf 868 Mhz ( RF868), Ecowitt bietet die Stationen / Sensoren allerdings in verschiedenen Frequenzen an ( 433 / 868 / 915 / 920 Mhz ), hier muß man natürlich darauf achten, das alle Komponenten die gleiche Frequenz verwenden. Ecowitt verkauft in Europa grundsätzlich nur Geräte mit 868 Mhz, aber es könnte ja durchaus sein, dass man Komponenten aus anderen Quellen bezieht. Der Sensor ist laut Handbuch nach IP66 gegen Staub und Nässe geschützt, somit steht dem Einsatz im Freien nichts entgegen. Die Batterie läßt sich ganz einfach einlegen, indem man den Schraubdeckel vom Batteriefach entfernt, die Batterie mit Pluspol voran ins Fach einlegt und den Deckel wieder zudreht. Dann leuchtet oben unter der weißen Abdeckung eine rote LED für 4 Sekunden, daran erkennt man, dass der Sensor funktioniert und die Batterie ok ist. Danach sendet der Sensor alle 70 Sekunden Daten, dann blinkt die rote LED jeweils einmal kurz. Es wird noch eine grüne Gummikappe für den Batteriedeckel mitgeliefert, nachdem man alles eingerichtet hat und sicher ist, dass alles funktioniert, schiebt man diese einfach als Feuchtigkeitsschutz über den Batteriedeckel. Ich besitze kein Ecowitt Ecosystem, sondern nutze den Sensor in Homeassistant mit dem rtl_433 Add-on. so dass ich zur Einrichtung mit der Ecowitt App oder Wetterstation nichts sagen kann. Mit HA / rtl_433 funktioniert der Sensor wunderbar, die Frequenz muß man natürlich in der Konfig entsprechend auf 868 Mhz einstellen oder mt Hop zwischen Frequenzen wechseln, wenn man auch 433 Mhz nutzt, ich habe das mit zwei RTL-SDRs für beide Frequenzen gelöst, da ich schon 433 Mhz Sensoren hatte. Der Sensor verwendet dieses Protokoll: protocol 142 # Fine Offset Electronics/ECOWITT WH51, SwitchDoc Labs SM23 Soil Moisture Sensor Allerdings wird der WH51 hier auf Amazon auch mit RF433 angeboten, wer den zusammen mit HA nutzen will und schon rtl_433 mit 433 Mhz im Einsatz hat, kann sich so also den Aufwand mit einem zweiten RTL-SDR Receiver für 868 Mhz sparen. Der Sensor funktioniert zuverlässig und hat auch eine gute Funkreichweite. Den Preis von aktuell ~ 20 Euro finde ich echt gut, alle anderen Produkte sind teurer. Wobei die Auswahl auch eher recht klein ist. Fazit: ------ Guter und zuverlässiger RF868 Sensor, kann ich daher empfehlen + AA Batterie + IP66 Standard + zuverlässig + gute Reichweite + Betrieb mt rtl_433 möglich

Connection sans pb avec station meteo Ecowitt
Il a juste suffit de mettre les piles dans le dégtecteur d'humidité et 30 sec apres il apparaissait sur le tableau de bord de ma station méteo. Utilisé sous Home Assistant pour réguler un arrosage automatique.
