desertcart.com: Sahara Sailor Hiking Pole, High-Z Collapsible Trekking Walking (Black) : Sports & Outdoors Review: Does its job and does it well - I bought this to be a lightweight and small hiking pole, and occasionally to use it to help hold up a tarp shelter or similar. My biggest concern with how lightweight and small/collapsible this one is, was that it would be flimsy or cheap. That has not turned out to be the case. It works great, and although I haven't put it through any particularly rough use yet, it seems rock solid when set up, and I haven't had a single issue. Pros: Lightweight. Comes with two rubber shoes to put on the tip in case one wears out. Can be spiked into the ground if you take off the rubber shoe. Wrist strap is comfortable. Collapses really quite small. Comes with a nice carry bag. Handle is comfortable. Height is adjustable. I'm 6'0" and the max setting is about right. If you're taller, you may want to look into a longer pole. Cons: It took me a few minutes to figure out how to set it up because the instructions aren't exceptionally clear. But it's not difficult, just not really intuitive. Once you figure it out the first time it's no problem from that point forwards. It's also a little difficult to fit into the carry bag when collapsed if you leave the mud basket on the bottom. I didn't want to take that off every single time (particularly if it's covered in mud). But I can get it into the bag, just not as easily as without. Overall I'm very happy with my purchase and considering buying a second one. Review: It assembled easily until it came to the locking in place - I ordered this to use for my son's first year of cubscouts, for my husband and I. At first opening the box it is very light weight and compact two very important things when going on camps or hikes. It would fit perfectly in a large purse or bag. It assembled easily until it came to the locking in place. I felt like I had to really pull on it hard in order for it to finally lock. I did not like that and it actually took my husband and I a few minutes to figure out how to get it to lock. I really have no other complaints. Overall, I would recommend it. We used it on my sons first hike and my husband absolutely loved it. It is adjustable for shorter or taller people so that was a plus since he is taller than I am. It does what is expected and we look forward to using it on other hikes this year.

It assembled easily until it came to the locking in place

Compact and strong
The Sahara Sailor High-Z Trekking Pole transforms from a little 14 inch nylon bag into a 52 inch hiking machine. Actually it is adaptable to any size between 44-52 inches, and it only weighs 10 ounces. This is such an easy addition to my pack - its a no brainer considering all of the benefits and uses of a good solid trekking pole. Set up is quick (please see photo detail) and it is a positive connection with a steel cable locking in place to hold it all together. This trekking pole is sleek and durable, and holds up under my full weight. I do think a steel tension clamp would be better than plastic on the height adjustment. The grip is very comfortable, and fits in either the right or left hand. I like the wrist strap - it is adjustable and wide enough to not cut into my skin. The tip is mega grippy, and stuck through icy patches on my initial test. The rubber cover for the tip is a nice addition to the package, but could use a better, more reliable connection to the pole such as a thread or clip. Anyway, this is a nice light weight, durable, inexpensive option to put in the pack and have at the ready.

Now this is what I call a decent hiking pole!
Now this is what I call a decent hiking pole! Instead of the usual shock cord up the center, this pole has a strong metal cable. Not only that, the cable locks firmly into place, drawing the pole's three sections together without any need for additional fasteners that could loosen during use. The handle is well-designed and comfortable to use. The metal tip is blunt enough so that airlines would not perceive it as a lethal weapon, and the rubber tip that covers it fits firmly and comes with a spare. This is my third trekking pole purchase, and thus far it looks like the best of the lot. For my purposes, a single pole is what I use most, mainly for balance on uneven terrain or cobblestone streets, so it is nice to be able to buy one rather than a pair. I am well pleased.

Very nice pole
Needed a second hiking pole for my boy and this one is perfect. Very light yet nice and sturdy. You can feel the metalic black finish is very well coated and the cable like wire inside the pole is strong so able to handle the wear and tear. It is compact once you take it apart and holds its position after extended and locked. From the video you can see you connect the first two section and give a little pull on third part and keep pulling up until you see the white line and pull up and down to the lock position. Same for unlock. After lock you can adjust the height with another easy lock clip. I even like the name High Z trekking "Z" as in the shape of Z when you take apart. Very well thought out product.

Not the hiking pole I expected
I would like to use this, but following the directions to get it to lock hasn't worked for me. I have figured out how to adjust the height and modify the tip, but I can't figure out how to expose the arrow per the directions for locking the pole. I liked the idea of it being collapsible, but, if I can't lock it, now what?

Compact, sturdy, and inexpensive
I am a very avid hiker and go wilderness backpacking for up to 5 days at least once a year. Good hiking poles are a MUST, especially when you are tired and are carrying more than 50 lbs on your back. I bought this hiking pole to take with me traveling on a plane because it can be compacted into 3 different sections. I much prefer my Leki poles, but I am sometimes weary about taking $130 hiking poles with me for casual hiking. Leki makes 3-section poles as well, but again -- they are relatively expensive. I am happy to say that these poles work just fine for casual hiking, and in fact bought a few extras for when beginner hikers get tired. At the price I bought these for, I don't mind trusting them to beginners because if they break them, then it's no big deal. What's more important, however, is that these poles can help make trips for tired hikers much more enjoyable. If you found this review helpful, please hit the "Yes" button to encourage me to write more. Thank you!

Great Lightweight and Easy to Use Trakking Pole
I'm very happy and impressed with this pole, and the completeness of the package. I would buy again! Here is what is included: - The Pole itself - Box and well written manual - 2x Normal rubber trekking tips - 1x Snow adapter - A nice nylon/mesh bag This pole has a removable trekking tip and underneath is a carbide tip for trekking in slippery conditions like snow and ice. I really like the case that it came with for slipping inside a pack rather than externally. This way it won't snag on anything. On my scale it rang in at 5.3oz or 150g. Setup is extremely easy with 2x points that go in and out, and a simple whiteline / arrow that you line up to a lock/unlock icon and pull/twist to get it to lock or unlock. In my testing it was not possible to get it to unlock accidentally, which is what you want! The max height is 135cm or 53in and that was more than enough for me at 6'4. I was comfortable at 125cm actually. The grip as well as the lashing strap were both very comfortable to grip as well as around my hand. Again, very impressed with this setup and highly recommend!
