Evolution: A Visual Record

I bought this book as a gift but first looked at it in a bookstore. The photographs are absolutely gorgeous. They say a "picture is worth a thousand words" and this book provides both text and photographs with visual evidence for evolution.It is also of interest to anyone who loves nature. Highly recommend this. Makes a great gift.

Spectacular book full of gorgeous photography and great text.As with many Phaidon books, the printing is really well done: beautiful ink on nice thick paper.The book is smaller than many coffee table books (it's just a bit smaller than an 8.5x11" piece of paper), but a great value at $30.

This is a really beautiful book. More text than I expected based upon the product description, but interesting. The photography is gorgeous - I don't really understand the earlier criticisms of print quality, particularly since this is a very moderately priced book.

fun to look through the great pictures. like a compilation of great photos from several years of National Geographic or a some other high quality nature publication

I saw some of the book and the photos are very striking. It was a gift for my science minded granddaughters. They seemed to like it.

Beautiful book, great text and photography

While I did find this to be a stunning collection of photographs--tremendous credit to the photographer!--I was disappointed with the print quality of the book. The few two-page spreads in particular were poor quality, including a lack of rich blues on a two-pages spread of a peacock's tail. Looks like the publisher was willing to spend a lot but not quite as much as it would take to produce a larger, richer-colored, higher resolution rendering of the photos. The text is not great but that seems irrelevant. This is not a book for reading. It's a book for looking. You are unlikely to learn much about evolution from this book. But you are very likely to gain an appreciation for some of the most visibly surprising physical adaptations that have been selected for over time.

I have followed the photographer on Instagram for years. I was happy to be able to treat myself to this book. The photographs are stunning. And a really helpful resource in my studio.

das Buch lebt von den Fotos - sie sind sehr professionell gemacht und man schaut sie gerne an.Es ist kein Sachbuch und es gibt wenige Texte. Wenn man sich dessen bewusst ist macht das Buch sehr viel Freude.Ich nutze es gerne in der Nachhilfe um Schülern zu veranschaulichen, wohin verschiedene Selektionsfaktoren führen können.
