Does the sonos one pair up with a sonos play1 as a stereo pair?

While the sound profile and shape of Sonos One and Play:1 are similar, they are acoustically, aesthetically and technically different speakers - they have different internal processors and computing platforms. Stereo paring the two is not supported at this time. However, Sonos One is compatible with all other Sonos speakers for grouping. Group a Sonos One in your kitchen and a Play:1 in your living room and have music playing in perfect synchrony, or ask your Sonos One to send music or turn the volume up in the living room with voice commands.

The sound profile of Sonos One and Play:1 are extremely similar. However, visually the products look different and nearly all of the internal components of Sonos One have been redesigned from the ground-up to create a smart speaker that can be natively controlled by your voice.

Yes you can, and this is the main value of the Sonos One over all other Alexa or Sonos products.   Sonos one exists in both worlds (Alexa voice command - music on command, AND Sonos).   I use one of these SONOS ONE on my Patio with two SONOS PLAY 5 speakers in a stereo Pair, all grouped with the SONOS One.   (I Have another setup in my garage.    I Simply ask the SONOS ONE (Alexa) to play a playlist, song, album or music genre and the whole systems comes on playing my request.    The one drawback is that you can only control the VOLUME on the Sonos One by voice command.   You have to use the SONOS APP to change the SONOS group.    This is a pretty minor issue since I have the volume set where I need it 95% of the time.    This combined system is the best "automatic" voice command stereo system today.   Beautiful sound from the SONOS PLAY products with tons of volume, and all on command using Amazon Music, Pandora, Playlists, Radio Stations and on and on... all on voice command.   "ALEXA - can you say COOL"

Do i need an alexa device or will this sonos one device allow me to begin using alexa?

Accepted Answer

Sonos One has Amazon Alexa built-in. You do not need another Alexa device in order to control music and begin using Alexa. You can even use Alexa on Sonos One to control music in other rooms where you have Sonos speakers.
