SHP9500 Replacement Ear Pads Compatible with SHP9500 Over-Ear Headphones I Memory Foam Ear Cushions with Breathable Hole (Velour)

I have had SHP9500s for around 3 years now and had been using the stock pads the whole time. They were good and the headphones sounded like they were meant to sound. Eventually, they started to get worn from needing to be cleaned and the cleaning was getting harder to do, since you can't actually take the stock pads off and expect them to go back on. Bought another set of (mesh) pads made for the 9500s with the plastic backplate. The soundstage was completely wrong and messed up. It kept feeling like the EQ needed to be adjusted but I spent probably 2 weeks fiddling with it and didn't find one that worked. The problem I realized, when I gave up, was that the mesh was too thick. It basically emulated closed-back headphones, which the 9500s are not. I got a recommendation that I should try velour pads for open back headphones. I said yeah why not, it can't be worse than the decision I already made and it's only $20. Got the pads, snapped them onto the headphones, and put them on. The sound is so much better than the mesh ones. I still like it a little less than the stock sound, but the increased clamp is nice. I can still hear my surroundings while wearing them. The bass is a bit higher and the general gain seems louder (probably from the increased clamp). They're soft and comfortable to wear all day. I live in Georgia and we keep our air relatively low (75+), during what is currently a very hot summer, and I haven't had heat issues. They breathe really well and the drivers don't touch my ears anymore, which is more appreciated than I realized. Highly recommend if you would like 90% of the stock pad sound without the bad parts of the stock pads.

While the build quality of the pads was good, the cloth on which is written `R` & `L` is way too thick such that it blocks the high frequencies to such an extent that the headphones sounded as if there was a veil on them. Also, while the pads are thicker than the original ones, and provide better grip, the mid-range was reduced as the ears are now further from the drivers. Pressing on the ear cups to reduce the thickness of the cups restored the mid-range. Overall a bad design.

These earpads are so soft and cosy feeling, they make your ears feel like they are in heaven, especially during winter. However, the SHP9500 is known for its clarity in mid and high ends, and these earpads drastically change the sound of the headphones, as if muffling it slightly, making sounds sound a bit compressed and plain boring. Whereas many people would probably tend to call the sound of these earpads 'warm', I would rather call it 'muddy' and 'boring'. It must be the cloth they used being too thick or something. If you're a R6S player, you'll have to find yourself some other product, as these will ruin the sound stage. But if you dont care about being able to pick up every little detail in the sound, and you mainly care about comfort, by all means, get these. They fit easily and are secure as if they were made my Philips themselves.
