Maybe worth noting that Sabatier isn't a proper brand name or quality mark and anyone can use it but this Professional Ice Cream Scoop is perfectly good, though I'm not sure what's professional about it or how much cheaper an amateur one might be. The scoop itself feels solidly made and sturdy and the edge although not sharp cuts through firm ice cream quite well. It's not too hard to get the ice cream to curl around the bowl and form a ball, so it does its job well. The all-metal bowl is handy because you can dunk it in a mug of hot water first and it retains some heat as you delve into the ice cream.The handle is coated in non-slip silicone which feels quite thick and so it's difficult to tell what's going on inside the handle. It doesn't feel as sturdy as the bowl and they don't feel like the two elements are that rigidly fixed together. If you're trying to scoop very hard ice cream it bends and flexes in a way that doesn't feel very reliable. I could do with less silicone and more rigid metal running down through the handle. That aside it's been pretty good and it emerges from the dishwasher in perfect shape and ready to scoop again.

I wasn’t expecting to find myself wanting a new ice cream scoop so soon when I bought a KitchenAid one a few months ago. However, we share a home with my parents and although it’s a good, sturdy thing, my Mum finds the KitchenAid ice cream scoop uncomfortable to use. It’s really chunky-handled and quite heavy too – neither of which are attributes that combine well with the arthritis in Mum’s hands.So when I saw this Sabatier scoop available to review, I grabbed it. It’s a well-made scoop, that still feels robust and scoops out well, but is nothing like as heavy as our older one. The fact that Sabatier are offering a 25 year warranty on a scoop that’s marketed as dishwasher safe is reassuring. I like the fact that this has a hanging loop in the handle, allowing it to be stored on a hook as well as in a drawer or utensil pot.

Comfortable, strong, easy scooping. I used to sell ice cream in a kiosk and we had to dip our scoops in water between scoops to stop the ice cream from sticking. I have to say I'm so very impressed with this scoop. You can feel the strength in the tool as it scoops the ice cream fresh out f the freezer with ease. The zinc aluminium metal head does retain heat and prevents the ice cream from sticking (no more water dipping for me). I know this is true as I licked the scoop before washing and it was remarkably warm. I'm truly converted to this ice cream scoop. Well worth the money for the pure quality.
