Disappointing usability and performance
I used this SIM card for a recent trip to China. I was in Beijing, Taian and Tainjin. I have an unlocked motorola G5 phone, model XT1687. Once installed the SIM card seemed to recognize the network and some phone services worked intermittently. I wasn't able to send any SMS message to USA number without first buying an additional package for direct dialing. After purchase of that, I still wasn't able to send SMS messages. I was unable to get any assistance from the online help. Out of four numbers to the USA I tried to call all failed to connect save one. The card was quickly exhausted of value and I had to top it off again. After adding another HK $100 to the card, it lasted one USA phone call and about two hours before exhausting the value again. I gave up and just use hotel wifi after that. I can't say that the card doesn't work well in Hong Kong but in mainland China, I was quite disappointed both in the value and the performance of the SIM card.

Very bad.
I brought this sim card two weeks ago and I am very disappointed, this card expired on 12/31/2019. Yet it is available to purchase under Amazon.

Do NOT buy. Faulty product.
We purchased 2 sim cards in anticipation of our mainland China and Hong Kong trip. On our last similar trip, we had difficulties buying a sim card in the mainland as us citizens and were too rushed to make a sim card purchase in the HK airport due to an airline connection. This trip we purchased the sim cards to have ready cards upon arrival. Unfortunately, the service was horrendous in terms of cell coverage, actual functionality, and customer service as well. One sim card could only make calls with spotty coverage in the mainland without data service. Another card could only do data and no voice despite adequate funds on the sim cards. Website would not allow Visa credit card top up of funds through their own checkout website or thru Visa checkout. Customer service was available by online chat but offered no additional help in troubleshooting to top off. We threw away the cards and ended up using our us carrier international plans which was pricey but reliable. Do NOT purchase. Would recommend 1) purchasing sim cards at the HK airport if time allows 2) using USA cell carrier international plans for mainland portion of trip and purchasing HK sim card when needed 3) finding another sim card brand.

A great SIM card for a 2-Week Mainland Trip
I wasn't certain how to activate the card, but the company reassured me with quick responses before I left the US that once I reached China, the connection would be fine. This card allowed my friends in Mainland to text me, and I could either call or text them. All text/ calls were":roamed" through Hong Kong. For the short two weeks that I needed the card used on an unlocked, Samsung Duos, 3G, I was very pleased.

Worked for about an hour
The service was a little difficult to activate, but the instructions were all there in the packaging that the sim came in. The service worked for a few minutes, then I got the following text (on November 21, 2018): ChinaUnicomHK: Your prepaid SIM was expired on 19/02/19 . You can keep your number and balance after top-up within 30 days from the expiry date. You may recharge your account on cuniq.com/tp . Enquiry:+85221221188HK/ +8613068400177 CN Reply Reply The stated expiration date was 90 days in the future, but my phone service was cut off and never worked again. I went to a China Unicom store (in China), but no one could even understand my problem, much less help me. The data service continued to work, but it was slow.

It Worked... Partially
I bought this SIM for my trip to China because I want to get a SIM in advance, with non-censored internet. The SIM worked - Partially. Here's my review: ACTIVATION: The activation of this SIM had some problems. The advertised process is that you just have to attempt to use it anywhere in Mainland China, HK, Macau or Taiwan and it will immediately activate. That did not work for me! At Pudong Airport (Shanghai,) I was attempting all sorts of calls and texting in an attempt to activate the SIM, but it did not activate. But eventually I changed the setting on my phone from 4G to 3G/2G, and then I immediately received an SMS message saying my SIM was activated. After that, I switched back to 4G and everything seemed to be fine. The uncensored internet was working! TOPPING UP: I was able to top up this SIM using my VISA card whilst still in Pudong airport. Using CU HK's web interface for this was rather clumsy, but I was eventually able to key in my VISA credit card number and Verified by VISA Password to perform a successful top-up. DATA PLANS: There is now a new data plan for 2 GB of data per 30 days. Dial **118*602# to get this plan for HK $148, which is NOT advertised in most literature. The plan worked perfectly for me. CALLS: This is where I encountered some big problems. I could receive calls from Mainland China, Hong Kong, Canada. But I could not dial out or send SMS to any of these places. Attempting a call immediately resulted in a "Call Ended" message on my phone. I e-mailed back and forth with CU HK support for 3 weeks on this, and they even phoned me twice about it. But they were unable to fix the calling when I was in China. I tried everything, changing every setting on my phone, 2G, 3G, 4G, VoLTE, switching SIM slots, auto / manual connection, and anything else I could find, and it did not work. They did fix the texting. The last thing they asked me to do was to make some test calls, and then e-mail them the exact date, time and numbers I phoned. I never heard from them again after that. Two weeks later, I was in Hong Kong Airport for a connecting flight. Surprisingly, I was able to use this SIM to dial out to Canada from HKG Airport! Did CU HK silently fix the issue? Or did the SIM just work differently in Hong Kong? I have no idea... all I can say is that I did not return to Mainland China after that, and have no idea if the SIM works in that location. OTHER REMINDERS: The uncensored internet is only through your 4G connection. Using WiFi in China will still be censored, so you should get a VPN before you go.

Do not use data with this card
If you are mainly making phone calls with this card then it should be fine. my mistake, I use this card for browsing n maps, so it expire in just 8 hrs, you can buy the data plan if you don't mind to pay extra on exchange fee with your card, they have 2 plan, 1. 500mb 15 days or 2. 1gb for 30 days, after you use it up the 500mb or 1 GB you have to buy again, you get the picture now?
